"The hipcity veg cheesesteak was better in their early years. I had it at two different suburban locations in the last year, and it was not good. Mostly it was very bland with the cheese glued throughout the seitan reminded me of something I 've made at home in the past that wasn 't great (bland overcooked taste). I think they 're using the wrong type of cheese for cheesesteak and the cooking technique could be improved also. The roll isn 't great either texturally, but it can be hard to source vegan bread, so it could pass if the ingredients were better. I tried to get it to be less bland by getting it buffaloed and adding lettuce and tomato. Didn 't help. Just isn 't a commercial quality sandwich anymore. The chicken sandwich is decent, but I don 't live that style of chicken patty that it seems everyone is using these days. Mostly I get it for the toppings and the fact that I think Beyond Burgers taste terrible, so that leaves me the chicken option at these vegan fast food places. The portobella sandwich was good. I didn 't care for the med salad dressing. The shake was pretty good they use double rainbow brand ice cream. Hip City veg was never my favorite, but it was passable and my sibling liked the cheesesteak so I 'd get it sometimes at the Rittenhouse location. Now, it 's worse with no burger patty alternatives and a ruined cheesesteak."

"I have been a huge fan of hip city veg for going on near 10 years now, I’ve put my family and friends on to their food and they are big fans now too! I think most of their food is solid, but I like most, I have my faves. They’ve recently changed their menu and I was nervous but figured I would try the new items. I was not expecting for so much to be removed from the menu, I HATE when restaurants get rid of items. Usually they are not replaced with anything that can live up to the legacy.Not wanting to be a stick in the mud, I gave the new items a chance and was put off. The mushroom blooms were incredibly greasy and lacked any real flavor. The bottom of my bag literally looked like I dropped a bottle of water on to it. I actually got scared that I had somehow spilled juice inside of it. Still, I tried some and couldn’t even finish them. Texture was bad and it was just a mouth full of of grease. I paid money to pitch them right in the trash. Green goddess dressing was meh, nothing could mask the awful taste of the mushrooms.Unfortunately, they no longer have their taco salad or their Caesar salad. Tbh I don’t think I will head to hip city nearly as often as I did before unless I happen to want some lemonade or a milk shake. That they'd cut the sandwich in half for easier eating – it's messy, but oh-so-fun. And yes, extra napkins are a must! As a sidekick, I tried their onion rings, and they were nothing short of ideal. "The food is delicious. The bun was soft. The temph was enough to give bacon a run for its money. The chicken was tender. The onion, pickle, and lettuce goes well with the sandwich. The sweet potato fries were tender and delicious. The two sauces I selected were Hippy City and Green Goddess. The Sweet Hippy City and Earthy Green Goddess were so delicious on the sweet potato fries. The Kale lemonade was not over sweet. It added a little bit of fresh to the entire meal. I recommend this meal. It all paired together well. Kudos to the customer service handling questions for first time customers by phone. Oh and everything I asked for was in the bag. "There is not a lot of seating. There were some rude ladies in there sitting next to each other taking up 4 seats for the two of them taking forever so others couldn’t take a seat. Point there, not a lot of seating. We are not Vegan but wanted to try it. The smokehouse burger was good. Chicken nuggets were good too. Sweet potato fries were also good. Kale lemonade was good and the fruit punch was tasty. Overall food was good but I thought it was expensive. I thought the staff was friendly and helpful. I’d try this again during warmer weather when I don’t mind taking it to go and eating outside."
