"My friends and I visited Fornello to try their Pastel, a classic Brazilian street food with Asian influences. We decided to experience it ourselves after hearing mixed reviews. Overall, it was a good experience. The service was decent—they were friendly and offered helpful suggestions. The dough was excellent, just like I remember from the Thursday farmers market, but the fillings lacked creativity. There was plenty of filling, and if you love cheese pastel, this place won’t disappoint because they don’t skimp on cheese. However, I can’t say the same for the other savory flavors we tried. The hearts of palm was simply chopped and unseasoned, even with cheese added. My favorite, chicken with catupiry, was just a piece of boiled chicken breast with catupiry—neither shredded nor seasoned. The dessert pastéis, though, were incredible! We ordered four flavors, and even though our banana with dulce de leche was mixed up with the banana and cheese, it was delicious without a crumb left. I’d probably return for the cheese pastel, to try the meat one, and, of course, the banana and dulce de leche that I missed last time."
