"Famous historical cafe that was a favourite hangout of Kerouac, featured in the Godfather, Shaft and Serpico, and had JFK do a speech outside once too. Apparently had the first espresso machine in the USA imported from Italy, which is still on display today, and was also the first place in America to serve cappuccino. Very traditional and historic feeling inside with over 80 separate artworks, including a painting from the school of Caravaggio. Worth a visit for all the reasons above, but also the coffee is great, the prices are reasonable and the service is also good."

Got only a cappuccino and it took really long to arrive. Coffee into it wasn’t great, but overall it was a good cappuccino. The place was very dark and empty. Cool the Caravaggio paintings. However, it could do a better job with ligh

Beautiful cafe with a rich interesting history. Worth visiting for these reasons and for people watching. Maybe also for the espresso martini. However the pastries and the coffee is really quite rubbish. The chocolate eclair totally lacked finesse. The cannoli was quite tasteless. Ver carta

Do not expect this cafe to have flawless food. The historical significance is enough to praise this venue. Breakfast is reliable. The hot spiked cider is a must-try. Staff is unbelievably fast in the tight space. The gathering strangers contribute to the energy. A wonderful setting indeed!

The place is ok. quieter compared to another similar places around. Food is w little bit at the lower than being average. Toilet is quite small, i did not know how to 'fold ' myself even tho I am already very small. Service was fine. I would not be able to really recommend this place. Still... Worth trying.

The thing that surprised me the most about this place was how kind all the staff were. Even though it was a crazy weekend rush, the staff made time for everyone, got my items to me quickly, and offered up such genuine hospitality. The coffee was excellent! The cinnamon on top made it feel so homey. You guys are amazing, thank you for taking such good care of me! Ver carta

The vibe of this place is amazing, get it why it is so famous. Got the tiramisu and Napoleon for dessert. The tiramisu was very fresh, spongy, one of the best I have had so far. Napoleon was good too. Also got Pina colada and peach margherita cocktails, good taste and quantity and strong enough. Prices are reasonable and ample seating is available even on busy weekends.

Nice place to sit and enjoy Greenwich Villiage. Great place to hang out and pretend you're an edgy NYU art student. The cappuccino was bomb and most of the drinks are nice. I haven't tried the pastries but they look really nice! The seating indoors and out is also very charming and comfortable and it is one of the rare places in nyc where the owners don't mind you sitting for hours.

"We went to Bread N Wine on a early Saturday afternoon for brunch. We were greeted and seated by the servers who were attentive. The food was okay the bread was really soft and fresh. My partner got the French Lentil Soup, Spinach and Tomato Egg Bake andI got the French onion soup, egg omelette with spicy tomato avocado and onions. I wasn 't happy with my omelette because thespicy just meant it was covered in hot sauce within. For beverages, we got chai lattes (we later found out it wasn 't tea basedbut rather coffee) and we had the option of oat milk, almond milk or regular milk. In terms of our overall experience we feltby the end too many things were steering the experience south; the worst was when we were accused of using counterfeit money topay for the tip. There was no special marker used to prove that the money was counterfeit or technology to back up this claim. That experience alone left a bad taste in our mouth as we left embarrassed by that claim, kind of shook from that, we stilladded the tip to our credit card 18%. As we walked out and talked about how weird that was, the owner of the business nextdoor overheard us and asked to see the $20 bill he showed us that our money was real and validated what we knew, that themoney wasn 't counterfeit. When we went back into Bread N Wine to discuss this there was no apology, just well, it felt thatway , shrug. It left a terrible feeling. We would not go back after that, this is not how you treat customers from start tofinish, hence the 2 star review."
