"Captain John's Dockside—here’s my take. I met some friends for dinner on a Friday night. Although I don’t usually seek out seafood restaurants this far inland, I was eager to try Dockside because one of our group, a longtime friend with a refined palate, has dined here multiple times over the past 30 years and highly recommended it. Our server was friendly and attentive (I wish I could remember his name to give him credit). The hush puppies he brought to our table were outstanding. I ordered the Broiled Combo—flounder and scallops. The broiled flounder was disappointing: just one small filet split into two pieces, mushy, wet, and lacking flavor. The broiled scallops were few (only three), small, flavorless, and rubbery. On the bright side, the baked potato was cooked perfectly. I realize this might have been an off night for the restaurant, especially considering my friend’s many positive experiences here over the years and the strong reputation it’s had in the past. However, my visit didn’t impress me. The food felt overpriced for both the quality and portion size. Also, a previous reviewer was right about how confusing it is to find the entrance—I circled the building three times trying to figure it out and still ended up entering through the wrong door. And for what it’s worth, there was no dock or water in sight, despite the name. Honestly, the highlight of this pricey seafood dinner was the hush puppies—that says a lot."
