"The food at the restaurant was delicious, but the service was slow. Despite this, the staff was very polite and courteous with a smile. There was no requirement to wear a face mask. The path to the ladies' bathroom was a bit narrow, which may be difficult for those who are claustrophobic. The restaurant had a lot of memorabilia on the walls, such as items related to Elvis Presley and Marilyn Monroe. It was very busy when we visited at 11:30am on July 4th. There was an ice cream stand near the parking lot. Although there was a patio, it was closed. The menu was limited, as they had already run out of some items. Some people in our group enjoyed the Reuben cheeseburger, while the trout was good but could use more seasoning when boiled. There was also an option for deep-fried trout. Fish hearts were available on the menu for those interested. Unfortunately, the truck hadn't come in, so none of us received the coleslaw that was supposed to come with our meals."

I had the best omelette I've ever eaten in my entire life. No shred of cheese was spared. Exceptional! Friendly, casual and unique inside

Came here on a Monday around lunch and it took roughly an hour for our group to get their food. I ordered their whitefish platter, and the whitefish tasted bland. Small portions and our group was left hungry after our meals.

We have gone here for the last 30 years when we partake in the apple fest in October, they are always great and fast service, whether it's 6 of us or 16 of us! The decor is amazing and very fun to look at! One of these years we will get in on the overnight rooms they offer! Love this place!

Hungry and feeling groovy? Look no further. Gruenkies holds the bar high with their casual oldies vibe coupled with flawlessly prepared trout and whitefish. Everything from the livers to the fish boil, this place is not to be missed when looking for excellent local fare. Breakfast is super good too! Ver carta

The wife had ribs, oldest boy had a hamburger and I had the meatloaf. All were great as was the service. We also got a room which was adequate for the evening, especially without reservations. Unfortunately they could not put us up for the next night but Judith was a jewel and called around to find us a place to stay the following night. Overall a fantastic trip. Thanks to all who were ready, willing and able to assist us.

Stayed at the inn and ate downstairs in the restaurant for dinner one night. I had the chicken special and my son had the ribs. It was all delicious, salad was good, too, and staff was friendly. Service was great! The inn is the kind of lake place I like to stay: it?s like being at your family lake house and you?re given a comfy room upstairs with a bathroom you share down the hallway with your cousins.: Authentic, homey, comforting.

My wife and I were looking for a quick meal before running to catch one of the last ferry?s onto Madeline Island. We walked into Greunke?s and we?re pleasantly surprised with great service and an excellent dinner ! The Whitefish and Trout were outstanding as were the spotted cow and generous glass of white wine. Judith (Owner) and staff made sure we had plenty of time to get to the ferry. This is a special place, we?ll be back! Chris Kelly Ver carta

I recently dined at this restaurant and had the most delicious fresh fish I've ever tasted! The Pecan Trout was absolutely amazing. We also tried the hot dogs from the ice cream stand on the property and they were the best we've ever had. The service from Chris and Maggie was fantastic, and they made sure we had a great time. Chris's hot dogs were excellent and Maggie's buns were also delicious. I will definitely be returning to this restaurant in the future.

My family and another family were looking for a late-night meal and decided to walk to this restaurant from the marina. We didn't know what to expect, but we ended up having a fantastic time enjoying delicious pizza, sodas, wine, and beer. Judith, the owner, took the time to show us many historical artifacts, including her amazing Wurlitzer jukebox. She shared some fascinating stories with us, which captivated both the kids and adults. Meeting her and hearing her stories was a memorable experience. When we left, not a single slice of pizza remained, and everyone was smiling. If you have the chance to meet Judith, take it - you won't regret it.

"This is probably one of the nicest hotels I have stayed at in Bayfield! For reference, I have stayed in a lot of hotels in the Bayfield area over the years, and I have to say this was the nicest one yet. It is a little expensive, but in my opinion it was worth it! We booked one of the jacuzzi rooms for a weekend (which of course is more expensive than a regular one) and I am so glad we did. The jacuzzi was so relaxing and the room itself was comfortable. The staff were super nice and accommodating. Although we didn’t need anything during our stay, I’m positive it would have been taken care of for us. The parking is spacious and you get “permits” for your stay so that it ensures all customers get parking. It is in such a convenient location because everything is within walking distance. We were deciding between this one and another location and I am glad we chose this hotel because of it being so convenient to stay in the parking lot and just walk where we needed to go without stressing over parking. The only downside is that there is no continental breakfast. They do have the restaurant attached which we had dinner at and it was delicious. Also, they have vending machines where you can purchase snack. However, for the price we paid, I will say the main con I had here was not being able to have anything included for breakfast, even if it was something simple or some discount for purchasing a room at their hotel. Thankfully there are quite a few options to choose from for breakfast (including the attached restaurant), and I know there aren’t a whole lot of other hotels in Bayfield that actually provide breakfast either. So unfortunately this is something that is hard to come by in general if you want to stay in Bayfield (unless you go to the bed and breakfasts or stay in Ashland). Overall I am glad we came. I had a lot of fun and I would love to come back soon!"

"We were visiting the area (Mon-Tues) and needed a place to eat supper. We thought we were walking into The Pickled Herring but I think that's a lounge connected to the Pier Plaza restaurant. We entered from Front Street, the patio side but the hostess stand is on Rittenhouse. The place was full but we were sat quickly. Our waiter greeted us but said it'd be a little bit before he took our order, which was fine because we had to look over the menu. When he returned, I ordered Sharon's Favorite sandwich with homemade potato chips and my sister got the Beef and Portobella and Swiss burger. My chicken sandwich was good. You can't go wrong with guacamole and bacon. The homemade potato chips were eh. No seasoning. Just tasted like burnt potato chips. My sister said the mushroom burger was good (but Wahlburgers mushroom burger was better). She ordered fries though. They were crisp and golden brown, not much potato though. The best part of the meal was the dill pickle spear! It was juicy, crisp and packed a punch! Not all pickles do that (Jimmy John's comes close) and I'd consider this one of my favorites. The menu had Lake Superior fun facts so that was interesting to read while we were waiting for our food to come. We were two of the younger people here. It made me wonder who everyone was. Were they locals or retired folks weekday vacationing like us? Lots of white hair beards."
