"My siblings and I (from Florida and Indiana) were in Ely for a family matter over the weekend. We stumbled upon this amazing little restaurant that served the most INCREDIBLE biscuits and gravy any of us have ever tried. We made every effort to get the recipe, even trying to bribe them (jokingly), but they wouldn't spill the secret. We also enjoyed their delicious Bloody Mary's and the excellent service. The restaurant was very clean, reasonably priced, and had a pleasant atmosphere. Personally, I will definitely be returning just for the biscuits and gravy - they were seriously that good. Easily 5 stars for Insula!"

Great food. Had a bison burger, old fashion burger, and pesto turkey club. Fries were homemade. Would definitely go back. Ver carta

Poor place. You don't seat people and then ignore them. Was seated and waited. No water no nothing. While customers that came after us were waited on right away. This restaurant can suck a fat one.

This restaurant in Ely is known for offering high-quality food at affordable prices. My wife ordered the walleye and I tried the paella, both of which were fantastic. The salad and Irish stew were also delicious, and the dessert was a nice way to finish off the meal. We make sure to stop here every time we are in town!

A fantastic choice in Ely. The walleye was excellent - we tried it both baked and deep fried. The desserts were outstanding. The service was exceptional, with our waiter Chuck being extremely friendly and knowledgeable. He was also a hard worker, constantly moving around. The atmosphere was lovely, with a bar and restaurant in the same spacious room. This is probably the most upscale establishment in town. I highly recommend it. Ver carta

Overall a pretty underwhelming experience, especially factoring in the price. Everything was under seasoned from the Bloody Mary to the fried chicken. Most everything was bland and left me wanting. The breaded walleye was fresh and the potato sausage in the bloody mary were the best bits of food. Honestly I could have made a meal of the potato sausage. Service was friendly and quick, the place was clean with an upscale look and feel.

I have never had a soup before that actually tastes better as you make your way to the bottom. It started at a solid 7, then progressed remarkably after the first 3 spoons. It was a shrimp and salmon chowder. At first all I got was salty fish water, then it exploded in flavor. It was also the highlight of my meal although the mashed potatoes rough smashed were good as well. The chicken was weirdly over cooked in the crust but rubbery on the meat. Lacked flavoring as well. Portions were too much. It was a half chicken semi-dinosaur size. All others in my party were happy with their soups, club, and grill cheese.

"After spending 4 days in the Boundary Waters canoeing and camping, and eating dehydrated foods, I asked the outfitter where there was real food in Ely, because we were dying for some. All employees at the outfitter suggested Stony Ridge for epic burgers. So off we went. The restaurant is a very unassuming place. On the outside, it looks like a tiny diner, but on the inside, it is all hardwood, floors, walls, and ceiling, with a huge amount of seating area both inside and out. Our waitress was super friendly and happy. The menu amazed me though. There were 50 different burger options. Fifty! And there were 2 pages of other non-burger menu items. I was literally amazed at the choices. It took us all a long time to order because we wanted to read through every single burger option. (and it seemed that since we were at a known burger establishment, we should all order burgers) And I've been on this kick lately trying cheese curds almost everywhere they are offered, so we ordered those as well. They also had an extensive alcoholic drink menu, which after a week of camping, I wanted to try every single one of them.... but settled for ice tea instead. The burgers that came out were really good. They weren't epic though, which was sad considering how expensive they were. My entire family really liked their burgers, but all agreed they had had better elsewhere. The cheese curds were ok (I don't think I have had cheese curds anywhere yet that have impressed me) In general, we had a great experience and one would think that I would have given them a 5-star review. But there were a couple negatives that I just couldn't get over, to give them a top rating. The cost of each burger was around $20. That is a LOT for a 1/4lb burger. Also, and though I like dogs, there were two large breed dogs freely entering the establishment, and roaming around. This didn't really bother me at all, until one of them stood by my table, begging for expensive food."
