"But my experience tonight was a disaster. From the beginning, the service was terrible. We were a group of 10 and wanted to sit at two empty high-top tables in the bar, but the staff treated us rudely because they wanted to keep those tables available for walk-ins. One server eventually said we could sit there, but the other remained unhappy about it and continued to give us attitude throughout the evening—despite the fact that only three customers came in after us. We repeatedly asked for water, which never arrived, and our food came out haphazardly. Who serves French fries with salads and then takes over 15 minutes to bring out the actual entrees?
When the deep-dish pizza finally arrived, it was not deep-dish at all. I’ve had over 50 deep-dish pizzas at Dominick’s since they added it to the menu, and having lived in Chicago, I know what deep-dish pizza should look like. What they brought out looked more like a frozen DiGiorno pizza—it wasn’t even served in a deep-dish pan and didn’t resemble deep-dish pizza at all. It looked like a round Sicilian pie, but not as thick. When I questioned the server about it, she became defensive and agitated, even challenging me to speak with the cook. When I did, he claimed that he had made the deep-dish for 15 years and insisted it doesn’t come out in a deep-dish pan, which I knew was incorrect based on my personal experiences. The server chimed in with the same erroneous claim, saying it had never been served in a pan during her 14 years there. Our friends, who live nearby and frequent the place even more than we do, also noted that the deep-dish used to come out in the pan, and what we were served that night was definitely not deep-dish.
Honestly, this was some of the worst service I’ve ever encountered, and it ranks as one of the worst dining experiences I’ve had in a long time. There is no excuse for the behavior of the servers tonight. If this is how the staff treats customers, I know I won’t be returning, and I can’t recommend that anyone else does, which truly makes me sad because this place used to be a real gem that I absolutely loved."
