"after waking up from a concert in phoenix we decided to go to a place in tempe where we can get breakfast. my wife has some Google research on some places and she landed on daily jam. As soon as they get in, they can totally see that this is a place for arizona state students to cool and get an breakfast. the vibe is certainly young and hip. no server interaction until they serve them. they choose a table, scan the QR code and order from their phone. I went with the red with the wad and chicken pliers while my wife went with pancakes. I also ordered a side of speck, toast mixed vegetables. my wife chose the pancakes. they enjoyed their pancakes, but the speck was probably not as crispy as it could be. a very filling plate. the red velvet and chicken was more gimmicky than different. the $1 difference was a funny difference looks smart, but just tasted like a normal waffel. the amount of hot honey and syrup they give them is abundant. the toast was quite normal, but the apple sauce dip that came with it was creamy and offered a beautiful balance. the mixed vegetables were underestimated. it is very good and chopped enough to have a decent texture without sacrificing taste. total for $50 this is a lot of food, but everything was quite standard and expectations were met for a college food place. the tables were clean and water was free as it is everywhere in tempe. could have been 4 or 5 stars, but for the expectation I had kept it to 5. To be honest, I've done with the research we've done, this is probably the best local breakfast / brunch room in tucson."

"Spokes On Southern is the perfect late night local bar that has a great selection of drinks and a real kitchen that has great food. The service is phenomenal for a bar. The seating is vast, with lots of options. The noise level isn't stupidly loud but moderate and allows you to hear everyone at your table. The prices are reasonable. Last night, after playing hockey in Chandler, we needed to grab dinner around 10:45pm. On the drive home to Mesa, we scoured the online choices for what might be open. A friend texted me a recommendation for Spokes on Southern, so we stopped in. The place was open late, and the kitchen ran until midnight. We arrived about 1050pm, and it was a small crowd of just a few people at the bar and a table. The barkeep quickly came to our table and took our drink order, after which he returned quickly with the drinks and took our app and beer orders. He was helpful and on top of things very quickly. I ordered some wings and the crispy chicken sandwich. My son ordered the Carver Burger. The wings were nicely fried and large, and tasty. The crispy chicken was absolutely awesome, with a gigantic moist chicken filet, perfect crispy breading, and delicious toppings and sauces. Seriously, it may be the best chicken sandwich I've ever had. The carver burger cooked perfectly, and the full of flavor. I also had the cup of tomato bisque soup as a side, and it was likewise surprisingly excellent. The crunchy waffle fries were perfect, too. The price tag on the food and drinks was reasonable, and the one-man barkeep server was running the whole show like a champ. Having trouble finding good late night food that doesn't taste crappy? Spokes on Southern has you covered. They even have vegan selection for those with specific diets. Honestly, this was a huge and delightful surprise. I will be back!"

"I first had the pleasure of dining at House of Tricks when I was taken by surprise--almost ambushed--and ended up going on a date. I've been there several times since in differing settings, but let me tell you, for a date or otherwise, this is a restaurant that approaches perfection and more than made up for my embarrassing social awkwardness the first time around. House of Tricks is set inside an historic house in downtown Tempe and it's every bit as charming as that sounds. You'll sit at a cozy table and if there's a wait it's worth it because the wait is a hallmark of the intimacy of the dining experience. The service here is excellent. You might inexplicably stay away from the restaurant for quite some time and return to see familiar faces nonetheless. The menu itself is varied and delicious. Some personal favorites of mine? I love the Spinach Salad with Goat Cheese, Strawberries, Pine Nuts and Raspberry Vinaigrette; the Grilled Scottish Salmon on a Potato, Fennel, and Green Apple Salad with Cider Cream and Mustard Seed Vinaigrette; and the Black Tea Spiced Ahi Tuna with Sweet Soy Vinaigrette, Shiitake Salsa and Glass Noodle Stir Fry With Siracha Aioli. My various companions have especially enjoyed the Caesar Salad; the Avocado and Papaya Salad with Watercress, Red Onion, Tarragon and Orange-Vanilla Vinaigrette; the Fire Roasted Poblano Stuffed with Sweet Corn, Monterey Jack, Cilantro and Sweet Red Pepper Coulis; the Midwestern Corn Fed Beef Short Rib Bourguignon on Fresh Herb Dumplings, Brown Sugar Glazed Carrots and Braised Button Mushrooms; the Pistachio Crusted Rack of Lamb with Green Onions, Grilled Potatoes and Tropical Fruit Crème Anglaise; and, in the words of a colleague, duck prepared in any fashion. And save room for dessert! Because neither I nor anyone I've ever dined with there has ever had anything less than excellent for dessert at House of Tricks. And if you're in the mood for fun, eat on the deliciously lit patio or hang out in the garden bar complete with trellis. House of Tricks has something for everyone and you will not be disappointed coming here."
