"We had a fabulous experience celebrating my wife’s birthday at Angel Oak. Arriving at 5pm we were greeted by a lovely young lady named Oceana who welcomed us and led us to our table on the outdoor patio with a wonderful view of the sun setting on the ocean. Rafael, our server, was pleasant and helpful with suggestions on cocktails. I had the Isla Paradiso and my wife enjoyed the Garden by the Sea Spritz. For a starter we shared the exquisite BBQ Spanish Octopus which my wife felt was the most perfectly cooked 5 Star dish she has ever had. For entrees my wife ordered the Sea Scallops accompanied with Grilled Mushrooms. I ordered the 8oz Prime Filet and added Truffle Fries. As we shared with each other bites from each plate we commented how delicious everything was. The Daou Reserve Cab paired with the Filet was just pure heaven. Baked Alaska for dessert was the delicious ending to a fabulous meal and experience. What a great evening!"

"J'avais été rebuté par quelques personnes parce que j'ADORE la côte de bœuf. Je venais d'entendre de grandes choses sur le restaurant. Malheureusement, toute l'expérience a été décevante pour nous. Nous avions réservé à la table ouverte et demandé un stand. Quand nous sommes arrivés là-bas, l'hôtesse n'a pas confirmé notre réservation quand nous lui avons dit que nous les avions réservées en ligne et nous avons quand même mis à table. Elle était notre serveuse et était plutôt bonne. Les boissons étaient bien faites mais petites pour le prix. Nous avons commandé la côte de bœuf. J'ai fait couper les filles et mon mari a obtenu les rois, ce qui représente une différence de prix d'environ 20 $. Quand ils sont sortis, c'était exactement la plus petite portion que j'avais commandée en longueur et en épaisseur. Nous avons commandé une rareté moyenne (ce qui lui ressemblait), mais elle n'avait aucune saveur et était extrêmement résistante. S'il y a une chose que j'aime presque autant que la côte de bœuf, c'est la vinaigrette ranch. C'était copieux et avait un goût terrible. (et non, ce n'était pas du fromage bleu) Pour obtenir notre facture de 100 USD à la fin de notre repas, nous avons tous les deux été complètement déçus par l'ensemble du repas. La qualité ne reflétait pas le coût."

"We went to Jane in Goleta a couple of weeks ago and really loved the whole experience so we decided we were going to make it a regular date for dinner. Well, we went tonight and had a completely different experience. The food was as good as before but the service was so bad it overwhelmed the good food. I mean, what's the point of good food if the attitude of the staff is going to make it stick in your throat? The wait staff are either overworked or undertrained and the hostess had an attitude that I have never seen before in a high end dinner house, literally rolling her eyes at anybody who requested anything of her. We spent more than $100. for a dinner here but will not again."

"Absolutely a shock how good this place was. I was walking by around noon and it was packed with people eating mostly hotpot. I got ma po tofu, one of my favorites, and I was blown away. I've tried a couple other things and all of them were good, but that tofu haunts my dreams. Everyone is really nice and helpful! They serve you at the table if you dine in, and takeout is extremely quick and easy if not. HUGE portions, particularly if you order off the lunch specials. I will often get the ma po tofu lunch special to-go and have it last several days. This is the best Chinese food I've had since leaving LA. It was a pleasant surprise in the cultural wasteland that is Isla Vista."
