"To begin with, the exterior of the restaurant has a unique aesthetic. While the decor adds some vibrancy to the atmosphere, the surrounding area is somewhat dull, which detracts from the overall ambiance. However, that’s beyond their control, so it’s not something I hold against them. Upon entering, I noticed it was much quieter compared to my previous visit two years ago. The air felt stale and cold, missing the lively energy it once had. Nevertheless, I received a warm greeting from a server who encouraged me to sit anywhere I liked and assured me she would be over shortly. I was with my grandfather, who is quite traditional, and as we walked in, he instructed the server to bring him coffee right away (which I find a bit rude, but I’ve learned to manage the awkwardness of these situations). The server, still cheerful, asked me if I wanted just one cup of coffee, to which I raised two fingers, and she promptly made arrangements for two cups. I noticed there were creamers already on the table, with a variety of flavors, which I appreciated as a nice touch. Additionally, they had butter, sweeteners, salt, and pepper available. The server brought us our coffees and menus, saying she would return to take our order. As a vegetarian who prefers to keep things simple, I opted for coffee, while my grandfather chose biscuits and gravy topped with medium eggs. The server excitedly informed us that this dish is called a "dicky." It’s always refreshing to see staff take pride in their menu! Although my grandfather tried to persuade me to order something, the server was friendly without being pushy, which I appreciated. I had hazelnut creamer and Splenda with my coffee, but switched to the table sugar on my second cup, as I prefer that to artificial sweeteners. Now, about the decor—the artwork on display was quite abstract and eye-catching, seemingly created by local or amateur artists, but I later discovered that it was actually made by the owners themselves! It’s a fascinating artistic choice! The furniture was also decent. The overall color scheme had a heavy 80s vibe—specifically reminiscent of the more eccentric side of that decade. I could easily envision a scene from "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" taking place here. The chairs featured classic black frames with brown cushions, while the tables had a black base with a brown top. The booths came in three different shades of brown and were surprisingly comfortable, providing excellent lumbar support that made taking notes for this review easy! The booth tabletops had a cobblestone gray finish, which added a nice contrast to the overall aesthetic. My server, Marcy, was friendly and proficient in her role, enhancing our experience. Our final bill came to just $14.65, making it a decent outing. Towards the end of our visit, my grandfather almost created a scene, but I managed to keep things under control, which was a bit embarrassing, to be honest. As for vegetarian options, I was pleasantly surprised by the variety available compared to many breakfast diners."

"1. **Fried Chicken**: Well-seasoned and packed with flavor. While it’s not the best I’ve had, it’s definitely good. 2. **Greens**: They tasted like they came straight from a can—very salty and lacking any smoked meat flavor. 3. **Mac and Cheese**: The color was a bright orange-yellow, and I prefer not to have that Velveeta taste. I returned it and requested dressing instead. 4. **Dressing**: No gravy, please! I can’t stand sweet dressing. I always ask for mine without gravy to truly savor the dressing itself. Often, people add gravy to mask the flavor. The sweetness here likely comes from using Jiffy mix, which isn’t great, although it was seasoned fairly well. 5. **Yams**: Wow, the butter was dripping! But there was just a bit too much sugar for my taste. 6. **Peach Cobbler**: Be warned, it's a generous portion! The crust was buttery and held up nicely against the syrup, although a bit too much sugar was used since some granules didn’t dissolve completely. 7. **Sweet Tea**: It was okay, but given how sweet the other items were, it felt like just another sugary addition. The water, on the other hand, was refreshing. The atmosphere was great, with clean tables and a warm, welcoming vibe. I also appreciated the creative option they offer: an entrée that consists entirely of sides, where you can choose three items. That’s a fantastic choice I haven’t seen available at other places. I didn’t order the cornbread because it wasn’t homemade; it was made using Jiffy mix. Too many soul food restaurants take shortcuts, and this was one of the choices they made. Overall, it was a very good experience!"

"Amazing place to stumble upon. While it had been recommended to me, I had yet to make it there and decided to check it out quickly while running an errand in Irvington and am so glad I did. Immediately is an obvious top 5 restaurant in Indy in my opinion. The space is retrofitted as a tiki lounge more than a bar because while you have the aesthetics of a tiki bar, the design is very intentionally accented with nice features that allow the feel to be that of a restaurant still as well.Katie, the bartender, was fantastic. Great recommendations, casual conversation and even better execution on the drinks themselves. The Colada is described as 2 per person limit so I couldn’t skip that perfect smoothness and creaminess flavor wise and was steered in the direction of the Firebird for my second and had the perfect level of heat/spice in the back of your throat.Food wise it was apparent immediately you can’t go wrong with anything. Definitely the best quality and value Oyster Happy Hour I have found thus far in the city, and am glad this place isn’t closer because I’d go all of the time. The wings were perfect and the Hiyashi Chuka was a perfect chilled noodle dish for summer.Truly can’t say enough about how dope this place is and while I want nothing but smashing success for them, don’t want it to blow up too much because it’s such a gem, but regardless, I’ll be back a lot. Parking was available and easy as a bonus and definitely am looking forward to checking out their bakery they share a space with as well.Vegetarian options: Have a great amount of options and alternative substitutes to accommodate and restrictions dietary wise.Dietary restrictions: Have a great amount of options and alternative substitutes to accommodate and restrictions dietary wise."
