"Plus 1-Star for being Dog Friendly. My 11-pound Goldendoodle LuLu was able to eat her Farmer 's Dog breakfast that I brought from home while I sampled the many items available each morning at the 8:00 AM breakfast buffet. Once I made a custom scramble using fried eggs, country potatoes, bacon, avocado, spring onions, and Tapatío sauce. Another morning I enjoyed scrambled eggs, sausage patties, waffles with blueberries and real maple syrup. Chilled fresh whole milk, O.J. hot coffee (locally roasted), several bread choices, pastries, fruit, and cereal. On Wednesday evening our party of four (and LuLu) had a wonderful dinner on the outdoor patio at the Sage Restaurant. For me the wonderful food makes up for any shortcoming mentioned in reviews regarding chipped paint, cleanliness, no TV in the rooms, no bar, Monday-Tuesday restaurant closure, etc. Thankfully daily maid service is not offered, keeps me from having to hang a Do Not Disturb sign or telling staff I don 't want it. My room 's AC kept me cool during July with 90-degree temps. In closing, thank you Cindy for your hospitality and willingness to share your knowledge of local history and activities in and around picturesque historic McCloud. "Burger and fries were excellent, staff was extremely friendly, and the prices were super reasonable compared to some similar small burger joints I've recently been to. It was extremely busy, although to be fair, it was around noon, there's a Mushroom festival this weekend, and it's Memorial Weekend to boot. The seating inside can feel a bit cramped, especially with so many people trying to order, HOWEVER, if you manage to snag a table outside, you get a pretty awesome view of Mt. Shasta between some houses across the street (would be even better if the weather wasn't so cloudy)."

"The service was slow and fraught with errors, even though we were the only customers in the restaurant. The ambiance was decent, but it was open mic night, which made it extremely loud during dinner. Unfortunately, the food was disappointing. The burger and fries were unsalted, and the burger was burnt despite being ordered medium. The toppings—tomato, onion, and lettuce—were piled on with sauce, causing the whole thing to fall apart when picked up. My child's mac and cheese was essentially Alfredo drowning in dried parsley; what child eats dried parsley? The fish tacos were overwhelmed by a taste of mayo and salt. The Brussels sprouts were under-seasoned and undercooked, far too crunchy, and the "seasonal fresh fruit" on top was just canned oranges. The Arancini pasta had a Cajun flavor that was poorly executed. Overall, this place felt overpriced, lacked flavor, and was completely underwhelming. I cannot recommend it."

"We were unfortunate enough to be sat right by the front door, where we witnessed the wait staff rudely greeting each customer, telling them they were way too busy and referring them to another restaurant across town. They apparently didn’t even have the time to keep a list of patrons waiting, and left it to the customers to manage the waiting order on their own and basically would just yell “next 4 top” outside as tables opened. After ordering we waited 45 minutes for our food to arrive then heard the waitress telling other customers that the burritos we ordered were the reason why the kitchen was so far behind. The food was great but the staff made sure every customer in the room knew how much of an inconvenience it was for them to want to dine in their restaurant. Enter at your own risk"

"The Axe Rose has been a long-awaited addition to McCloud. It's a great spot not just for its generous portions of food and well-stocked bar, but also for its fantastic interior that reflects the local vibe. Once a logging community, the architecture here is unique, showcasing its historic roots as a company town with elements reminiscent of Arts and Crafts style combined with Bavarian Alps details. Inside the Axe Rose, you'll find painted beams and a log cabin aesthetic. There’s also outdoor seating to enjoy during the often lovely weather. Honestly, McCloud is one of my best-kept secrets, though it might not be for everyone. If you're looking to disconnect and immerse yourself in genuine California experiences, consider visiting, enjoying some brews and delicious food, and spending time by the McCloud River."

"Stop at late lunch, I ordered Baja Burrito scarf erroneously (Doing Keto) and realized that it lists rice as an ingredient that is no for me, fortunately hubby switched its chicken/bacon packaging with me. I gave him the tortilla to fill with Burrito mix while I ate the insides only of his packaging. Only the thing is, I was kind of amazed at the small portions serving both dishes as, considering the fee was $12 for each order. I guess that's inflation for you! Lunch itself was great, the service was great. I'd go back."
