"I will preface this review by saying that while we are Americans, we live in Paris and are accustomed to pretty brutal service, but this was on another level. While the space, food and neighbourhood are all lovely, the service was unbelievable. We made a reservation for 9:30 and arrived to a fairly busy Saturday night. We were a few minutes early and grabbed a seat at the bar. The energy in the restaurant was chaotic, frantic and disorganized. Our cocktails were pretty good, although on the pricy side. The hostess working the door was visibly flustered and not particularly warm or welcoming. I don't really fault this poor girl, as seemed to be on her own. Once we were seated at our table, it was about twenty minutes before anyone acknowledged or spoke to us. In fact the two guys who sat down next to us at the bar while we were waiting AFTER we did, were already eating their appetizers. By this time, I was losing my patience, but the menu looked promising and we were hungry. Finally - a waitress came over and took our order. We ordered some drinks, a starter, some sparkling water and some pizzas. First to show up were our pizzas. We told the guy dropping them off that we still hadn't had our starter and he looked confused. By this time, we were starving so we just took the pizzas. My cocktail and water still hadn't shown up, and I assumed they had simply been forgotten as well. The pizzas looked good and they were delicious. While we were eating our pizzas, a cocktail that looked like the one I ordered was dropped off at an empty table next to us. A few minutes after that - the girl who initially dropped it there, handed it to me and explained that the tables were out of order and this was actually my cocktail. At this point - I was beyond frustrated and I just said "whatever" and took the cocktail. As we were eating our pizzas, the man who dropped off our pizzas brought our appetizer. At this point we were so over this place that we told him we didn't want it. As we finished our pizzas, we had been there for almost two hours and just wanted to leave as soon as possible. I've never let poor service or bad food ruin an evening, but this was getting close to it.The waitress offered dessert and while I am a dessert junkie, we declined and she even offered it for free - we still said 'no thanks'. She apologized and told us that the tablets they use were at fault for the mix up. To sum it up, this place has everything going for it. The food, the ambiance, the cocktails are all great. BUT, as we know - the service is what makes a meal and this was some of the worst I've ever encountered. I'm pretty easy, but it was just one thing after another. Do yourself a favour and try some of Paris's other great Italian places. Baffo in the Marais is wonderful as are all the Big Mamma places ( Pizzeria Popolare, East Mama, Ober Mama ) are all great!"

"My friend and I decided to try MamaBali on a Sunday after discovering it not too long ago by accident. My friend called on Thursday to make a reservation and had Audrey on the phone. She offered us a Seminyak package at 299€ instead of 319€ as advertised. The package includes a hammam session, scrub, an hour of massage followed by a so-called Balinese dinner. He told my friend that we needed to come at 14:30 to be able to take a full advantage of the hammam and "the relaxation hall". I was a bit surprised as it meant that we are spending the whole afternoon until dinner. As a verification I then called MamaBali myself and Audrey confirmed to me that we should come at 14:30. I was imagining that it would be a big spa with spacious hammam thus the long hour advised. As we arrived on the day of our appointment we were greeted by a very nice lady called Khaira. We told her that we booked a package with Audrey and she had given us a special price. She mistakenly offered us a lower member price at 256€ to which we agreed until Audrey arrived 5 minutes after our agreement. It turned out that this Audrey is the owner of the place. The price was re-increased to 299€ by her without any explanation nor apology and in a very cold manner. The miscommunication between them ceased our 5 minutes of joy and good mood. The way Audrey handled the issue was also very blunt and cold - nothing to do with Balinese hospitality. She could have told us how we can enjoy the lower rates by becoming a member. But we had none, instead a cold treatment by Audrey. Khaira tried to sugar-coat the matter by saying that "oh it's the rate with dinner", which we already understood since the very beginning. As we were going down to the basement which is where the spa area is located, I was surprised by the tiny size of the hammam and the changing room/locker. The so-called relaxation area was actually a commun waiting space with used/old fashioned furniture. At times there were not enough places for the clients to "relax" in between their hammam and massage (there were only 7 seats in total). After looking at the place, I told my friend there is no way we can spend the whole afternoon here without boredom. So I asked an Indonesian staff about our treatment ; she seemed surprise and told us that we were very early as our appointment is actually only at 18:00. I thought it's gonna be ok as probably we'll be having our scrub in between the hammam and before the massage. But no, we waited the whole afternoon alternating our times in the lousy waiting room and the tiny steam room that they call hammam, until we were called slightly before 18:00 for the scrub and massage. This only happened after few questions-cum-complains to Khaira. Khaira admitted that they messed up the planning and showed that our appointment were booked twice on their planning. While I was checking this, another client came up complaining that the treatment they are getting is not what they booked for and she was sent down again to get her treatment completed. I overheard Khaira telling this client's therapist that this was their (MamaBali) mistake. Khaira also told us only after dinner that usually clients are advised to come between half an hour to an hour prior to the treatment for the hammam. I was really angry as we wasted the whole afternoon in the mediocre spa at the fault of the boss (Audrey). But my anger was sort of compensated by the good massage by therapist called Cuici. My friend was also happy with the massage by his therapist; Esa. Dinner was average. The starters and the Satay sauce were good, but Nasi Goreng and Mie Goreng was below average. If you do not want to waste your time, avoid this spa or ask for anyone other than Audrey for your appointment."
