"A famed food critic once wrote that what made the soul of a parisien bistro was its « patron » . He was right and you could say it twice as the « patron » of this quaint and elegant bistro along the beautiful canal St Martin are two in fact ! To be fair I knew the guys from Singapore where they had restaurants, notably the famous L’Angelus on Club street . They are back in Paris and it seems the all neighbourhood is enjoying their terrace in this quiet location just a few meters away from the busy canal , the new place to hang out ! The food is simple but very well executed, products being of top notch quality amazing veal kidneys in grain mustard sauce and portions quite generous for the pricing most mains are around 18 or 20 euros . Don’t miss their foie gras terrine , their trademark starter that made them famous in Singapore. As a tribute they serve it with an amusing mango and sitchuan pepper chutney and country style bread . The bread, yes that’s also what makes a good restaurant, is fantastic there. Dessert are good too . I enjoyed a nice smooth silky chocolate cream that was a « regal « ! So, not a place for fancy modern « master chef « style that has invaded Paris but a solid traditional bistro the way I like it ! Forgot to say a word about their wine list . It’s compact but very well selected I had a gorgeous Gigondas on offer that night and carries a good selection of natural wines for those who like that stuff !"
