"We didn’t enjoy eating here for our anniversary. We have celebrated at Agate in the past but this time, the staff were seemingly stretched thin and we felt like we were an inconvenience more than anything. We agreed to sit at the bar because the table we reserved wasn’t open yet. I wish we had just waited for the table. Our server was kind but not attentive. Everything took too long. There was a leak from the ceiling right next to me and it was dripping/splashing me and my purse. So much for a romantic dinner Service: Dine in Meal type: Dinner Price per person: $50–100 Food: 4 Service: 3 Atmosphere: 3"

DON'T HESITATE!! This is one of the best restaurants on the island, if not the best, and I've tried them all. The food is incredible, as is the service, ambiance, and drinks. If Rich is your server, count yourself lucky, because he's the best there is.

We've visited Agate several times now and it is consistently excellent. Both the service and the food. I've never had anything here that I didn't like. The fish and pasta dishes are particularly good. Oh, and the budino is an awesome way to end a meal. Visualizza piatti

We visited for a nice dinner on our way to the Bainbridge-Seattle ferry terminal. The staff was very attentive and helpful. The menu is limited but everything we tried was delicious! The salmon was amazing and we will definitely eat here again. (Try the ginger mock-tails!

The food is excellent in a wonderfully comfortable and elegantly cozy setting. The owner is truly talented, and it's clear that the community appreciates this restaurant, as evidenced by its regular clientele. Don't miss out on trying the Bainbridge Whiskeys; they're fantastic! Visualizza piatti

Everything I had was delicious. The service and atmosphere were excellent. I highly recommend the gnocchi, which offers a unique twist compared to the usual preparation. The addition of pumpkin seeds and sunflower seeds enhances the texture, while the grilled corn brings a touch of sweetness.

We took the ferry to Bainbridge Island to enjoy some delicious treats at Mora (ice cream) and Agate, both of which come highly recommended! The mussels were cooked to perfection in a light and flavorful curry broth—make sure to use a spoon to savor every last drop! The Elchburger was also perfectly done, served with crispy fries. This is definitely a fantastic spot for a memorable meal in the Pacific Northwest!

"Unfortunately, I can neither say that this food is authentic or good. I have been here twice and I was hoping that the second time would be a redemption but it was probably worse than the first time. I have eaten a lot of Vietnamese food in my lifetime and there was only one dish that tasted vaguely Vietnamese? I understand that it was part of a fusion concept but many of the menu items just didn't make sense and the menu felt very incohesive. The ambience was nice though and we were seated on the outside patio on a chilly fall day. I feel like it could have been more heated, but that's just a minor complaint.I ordered the chicken buns, chicken pho, and the vermicelli noodles with grilled pork. The vermicelli noodles were the most Vietnamese and it was acceptable. Good char on the pork, although it felt like something was missing-maybe it was that they didn't give the proper herb bundle with mint and such. The chicken buns were not great as the chicken was chewy and stringy, instead of being juicy and moist. Finally, the most egregious menu item was probably the chicken pho with the onsen egg. To be honest, I don't even know what an onsen egg is doing in pho; it didn't work. The chicken, just like the karaage, was very much overcooked and not done as traditional pho ga chicken. It was tough and stringy, and the broth was overwhelmingly a massive salt bomb. The soup was so salty that I couldn't even even drink more than two sips. Finally, the service just wasn't great when I went. I had to flag down the waiter multiple times to even order and ask for water, and there weren't even that many other tables. I also felt frustrated at the end when I was trying to pay for the bill, the waiter took a credit card from my grandparents when I pleaded with him not to and he explained, he was very much first come first serve. I understand this is some specific cultural social norm and not something to drag a waiter into, but it did feel tone deaf. Unfortunately, I just can't see myself returning especially considering the price point is high. There is much better Vietnamese or Asian for a much better price point in Seattle."

"As soon as I stepped into Proper Fish, I was enveloped by the unmistakable atmosphere of a proper fish and chips shop. The sound of frying oil, the utensils designed for hand-held fish and chips, and the traditional newspaper for wrapping all pointed to a genuine experience. Coming in solo, I asked a waiter whether the owners were British, and I was playfully labeled a “British fish and chips connoisseur”—it's a term I’ve become quite familiar with in my line of work. After some thought, I embraced the title and responded affirmatively, which led to excellent service throughout my visit. I observed the kitchen staff going through the same steps I perform daily: coating the fish in flour, dipping it in batter while letting the excess drip off, and placing it skillfully into the fryer to maximize the number of fish being cooked. The chef was impressive, working quickly with his hands while wearing gloves—something I’m not brave enough to try! The timing of the chips frying alongside was spot on. They served the fish and chips on trays lined with traditional newspaper, a nice homage to British culture that shows they understand their roots. Now, let’s talk about the mushy peas, which turned out to be my favorite part. They added a twist to the classic recipe by incorporating a minty aioli flavor, elevating the dish to a finer dining experience. However, I found the tartar sauce to be a bit too creamy for my taste. I would have preferred more lemon and a bit more texture from the chunks. The fish itself was outstanding—properly drained, making it less greasy, and topped with just the right amount of salt. It captured all the essential flavors you’d hope for. On the other hand, the chips could have used a bit more seasoning. While they were crispy and cooked well, they were only seasoned with salt. My boss often says, “never too much vinegar,” which I fully agree with. I wish they had tossed the chips in vinegar to bring out that signature flavor. Although there were jars of vinegar available for self-service, I have two concerns with this setup: 1. Tossing them provides an even coating that enhances the taste, and 2. For newcomers to fish and chips, how would they know that the chips should be drenched in vinegar? In conclusion, this is my first Google review. I'm not sure if I have a future as a food critic, but for fish and chips, I'm more than willing to share my thoughts."
