"The sanitary conditions in the restaurant make me worried as the plastic bowls and spoons look like they have been used for thousands of years without their original white color(which has become black). I found there was non-washed food in both bowls. The food has already dried on it. When the food was brought to the table, the mutton and chicken offal tasted very un-fresh and smelled bad. The worst thing is the spicy hotpot. The food tasted terrible. The traditional dish MALATANG hot spicy pot is different from other Chinese restaurants. It is all vegetable and tastes like pig food(Taste just like vegetables in a little spicy water). when I asked them why they didn't explain initially it is different from the traditional MALATANG spicy hot spot(name is MALATANG), they said they are a BBQ restaurant and their spicy hot pot is just like this. The vegetables tasted very bitter, I was wondering if they didn’t wash the vegetables so we could taste the pesticide., or if the vegetables had already rotten and they didn’t take out the rotten parts. I got a diarrhea at home few hours later. The restaurant never wash their dishes before they give them to the next customers and don’t wash their vegetables. I will never go to this restaurant again."

Overall really solid Chinese skewer place! I recommend the chives, beef, and chicken skin skewers.

Don’t prepaid your to go order. They will take forever to get your order ready to hope that you lose your patience and leave without your food.

Even though the price is more expensive than before, the barbecue is not as delicious as before. I feel a little disappointed and will not come again in the future. Visualizza piatti

Firstly, the service at this restaurant was quite slow; we waited for 39 minutes without receiving our dishes. Additionally, I’m concerned about the cleanliness. The floor was dirty, and there were flies constantly buzzing around

Worst bbq ever! The food tastes like chewy rubber. Every item tastes the same-same seasoning, same flavor. Veg or non veg. I picked up. They pack veg and non veg all together in one cheap box. No napkins, dips, nothing. Never returning and don’t recommend!

The food quality at this place has gone downhill unfortunately. Used to be our favorite skewer chuaner place in the entire bay Area but the recent visit left me unimpressed. The mantou was coated with sugar while the beef lamb skewers lacked flavor and lukewarm. Guo Bao Rou remained solid though. Visualizza piatti

The taste is pretty good, but the clerk’s hands and feet are not clean The dinner for five people cost more than $170, which I think is reasonable. I used Venmo to pay the bill and took care of the boss 's business. But the clerk told me that it cost more than 230? ? I checked and it was 21% after tax, so the waiter added it himself ¯ (ツ) ¯ Boss, take care of your employees.

I'm not a new customer, instead I return to this place regularly, mainly because there aren't much options in the bay for Chinese Type BBQ. Their food are not bad, they can definitely be a good option when craving for. However, I never enjoy dine-in at this place. Not because of the atmosphere or the service, it's because of the way they are asking for TIP. This restaurant is one of those which breaks what it means by TIP. They will always try to tell you that the demand a minimum of 15% tip, regardless of how you feel about your experience. Just today I intentionally left a 10% tip because I feel so horrible for the way they ask for it. To the owner of this restaurant, you better fix this s...

"Dear Gyu-kaku, I am writing to express my deep disappointment regarding the service I received during my recent visit to Gyu-kaku on October 7 at 8:00pm. While I have had positive experiences at your restaurant in the past, this particular visit left me extremely dissatisfied. Upon entering the restaurant, I was seated at a table that was clearly inadequate for my party's needs. We had made a reservation for 10 people, but the table provided could only accommodate 8. This immediately set the tone for our experience. To make matters worse, a waitress (not my main waitress) rushed us through the meal. She told us to put food to our places so she can have spaces to put more trays of meat. However, this is BBQ and the food just arrived within 5 mins. The meat hasn't even done yet to be edible. I asked her to set the trays at another table and we can grab them when we're done with our current plates. She said she couldn't do that and we must divide the food now so she could have spaces to set more trays. It was very reasonable to rush your customers through the meal. We're paying for our dinings. Gyu-kaku is a place to enjoy high quality Japenese food, and the service should uphold the standards of its high quality, not this rude and unprofessionalism. I value the dining experiences I have had at Gyu-kaku in the past, which is why I am particularly disappointed by this recent visit. I believe that the issues I have outlined above do not align with the high standards I have come to expect from your establishment."

"They recently changed their hours, so now they only stay open until 8 PM. This is quite strange, especially since it's summer, the movie theater in El Paseo is much busier following the closure of the AMC theater in Vallco, and it’s not even dark yet at that time. I really think they’re missing out on a lot of potential business. Additionally, they've added a code to the bathroom door, which makes me wonder if they were having issues with non-customers using it previously. It’s hard to say. What I do know is that during my brief visit, everyone who was given the code had difficulty opening the door because it included a special character at the end of a long string of numbers that nobody could remember. On a brighter note, they serve delicious coffee and pastries, and the staff is both knowledgeable and friendly. The strawberry pop tart had a lovely pastry crust that seemed to have been brushed with egg white to give it a nice sheen. The filling tasted *exactly* like Smucker's strawberry jelly… In fact, I suspect it might have actually been Smucker's! Whether that’s a good or bad thing is up to personal taste. However, I found it odd that while they offer several unusual ingredients for unique drinks, like turmeric and ginger for golden drinks, their selection of more standard flavored syrups is extremely limited. There’s no raspberry, no strawberry, and no other berry flavors—just chocolate, honey, coconut, and of course, turmeric. Their golden drinks have more of a winter flavor profile anyway, which is probably why they’re not currently on the menu. They have no specials at the moment (though they mentioned they can still make the turmeric drinks), zero fruit flavors, and a very limited selection of syrups. Come on, guys! Don’t rest on your laurels. What are you doing to stay competitive? Be sure to grab your turmeric latte before 8 PM!"
