Rightfully considered the best Italian restaurant in the lake in the hills, Algonquin, Crystal Lake, Cary area. Not everything on the menu is stellar, but all of it is acceptable and there is more than a handful of absolute rock star dishes. Highly recommended. Service: Dine in Meal type: Dinner

Service was great but food was so bland and never have I ever seen or had poached chicken vesuvio. Chicken was not well seasoned and it was sitting in a very creamy and thick liquid which made my potatoes very soggy. We had 4 different meals and everyone loved theirs. The server was vivacious and attentive. The prices were reasonable. The atmosphere was casual and not too loud to carry on conversations. I really want to like this place. Tried it in 2020, wasn’t a fan. Thought I would try them again post COVID. I had the bolognese thinking it would be like Grandpa’s. Nope, it’s canned tomatoes. Tasted more like marinara. Do yourself a favor and go to da Baffone Cucina Italiana in Crystal Lake instead. Service: Dine in Meal type: Dinner

"We came here while in town for a friends wedding. We stopped here for breakfast. Our waitress was so nice I wish I had written down her name to mention her. We went on the earlier side and were able to get a seat right away which was nice. The menu had a lot of good options and some good variety of breakfast things. We ordered a scramble and avocado toast. I wish my toast had been a little bit more toasted, it didn't seem like it had been warmed or toasted at all. The breakfast potatoes were pretty good and we asked for them extra crispy. Our drinks were also pretty good. Overall, I didn't think it was amazing but it was a good place to stop and grab a big breakfast before being busy all day in the area."

The prices are very reasonable, making it only slightly more expensive to take the family out for dinner than a trip to McDonald's. "I strongly advise against visiting this restaurant! I placed a pickup order that was supposed to be ready in 20 minutes, but it took over 40 minutes when I arrived, even though the place wasn't busy. The waitress/bartender was on her cellphone and seemed completely unbothered by the delay. I ordered the country skillet for 14 dollars, and it was just as disappointing as it looked—there were no eggs on it, and I couldn't find any gravy either! The corned beef hash, which cost 5 bucks, tasted like it came straight from a can. To top it off, they charge extra for takeout but don't even provide napkins or silverware. The service was rude, the owners seem to cut corners, and the food was mediocre and overpriced. Save yourself the trouble and go anywhere else!"

"4 meals ordered. One of them, the trout (from the regular menu--not a weekly special), we were told was not available; two hours after the restaurant opened for the night. The chicken breast on a second order had to be sent back because it was raw, and the shrimp that was supposed to be a part of the dish was forgotten and was brought to the table on a separate plate. Third dish, Poblano pepper with salmon was mostly tasteless, with too much sauce and overcooked salmon. Dish 4, the half chicken, was greasy, and the fried potatoes were too salty. The bill came to $176.00, which is about $100 more than it was worth. No compensation for the raw chicken at all (that should have been taken off the bill). Slow service for such a small place. We will not be going back. All that the owner had to say about our meal was that Not everyone likes our type of food ."
