"This establishment is CASH ONLY This is a must visit if in this area Due to some unfortunate circumstances we are in the Mount Vernon area for a few days and wanted something different. This place was the perfect option. Despite there being no one in the restaurant, there was a short period of time where we seated ourselves and......ok so this is a smaller business and were probably prepping for the evening but acknowledgement is key. Our dishes were both excellent, my sister had the Jungle Special which is J Salmon and Pasta Noodles in a delicious Creamy White Sauce. I had the J Chicken with Rice and Peas and a side of Plaintains that were all as delicious. We had agreed to try a bite of each others food however enjoyed our meals so much we scratched the idea halfway through. The portions were both generous however the Salmon Portion was a bit smaller in comparison to the Pasta portion. The young lady who assisted us was perfectly friendly, and spent the appropriate time at our table. It wasn't until it was time to pay that we realized the sign behind the menus read cash only. This is not an issue in general except, I never carry cash, and lots of people do not. There is an ATM machine inside which is convenient and has a fee. Yes, credit card transactions come with some fees but that's the price of doing business. It's a damper at the end of a meal to find out I need to use an ATM. What if I did not have my bank card and literally had one credit card. This is a five star rating easily however the ATM fiasco paired with the seating hiccup at the beginning places us in the 4 Star category. This is a must visit, but if I have to remember to hit the ATM before my visit and there's an easier payment option at another establishment then........"

After a soccer match in NJ, I went in right before closing. The owners stayed open later than usual to accommodate my friends who were about an hour behind me. The food and beverages, as well as the service were excellent. This restaurant has my seal of approval.Food: 5/5

Yeap... we went there and LOVED the atmosphere, the courteous and ATTENTIVE chef, the ambiance, it was PERFECT. The Jungle special (Salmon with pasta) was DELICIOUS!!!!... Next trip to NY will have me eating at this location and I'm recommending it to all my friends.Food: 5/5

My server, Dre, was fantastic! I ordered the brown stew fish, and it was so delicious I couldn't help but lick my fingers. The appetizers were also impressive— I had the planters and chicken wings, which were great in both presentation and flavor. I highly recommend this restaurant!

The food here was amazing. The service was great. Meal was fresh when ordered. For the first time in a long time I have zero complaints. This was perfection. Even the volume of the music was perfect. The rice and peas could eat by itself, everything was delicious. The owner is super pleasant and we sat for awhile and there was no rush to get us out. It's not a huge place but it's super comfortable and I found out me and the owner came from the same place, hence the name of the restaurant, that was awesome. Super chill environment, surely going back

I attended a wedding shower at this restaurant and it was a fantastic experience. It had the best Jamaican food I've ever tasted, and the service was excellent! This place is definitely one of those hidden gems. I highly recommend this restaurant for its outstanding service and delicious dishes. Additionally, there is a parking lot and garage right next door.

Our family celebrated our high school graduate… We couldn’t have chosen a better place to celebrate…. We were welcomed, accommodated comfortably…. The food was delicious and freshly prepared….The music was just as if we were in the Caribbean… the establishment was tastefully decorated…. I was absolutely thrilled with my dining experience at MV! Over the past week, I've tried several meals, but none come close to the culinary delight I found here. The fish was a perfect masterpiece, cooked to absolute perfection. Paired with sides that added a heavenly touch, the entire meal was taken to a new level of satisfaction. Without a doubt, this has been the highlight of my week. I highly recommend this restaurant—it's a true taste of heaven!

The ambiance was inviting with a pleasant, welcoming staff. We had a plethora of Jamaican dishes. The food presentation was delightful. The steamed snapper, the J chicken pasta, the J steak, the curried shrimp, the ackee, and the green plantain was delicious! The plantain spring rolls were delectable. There was also generous sides of rice and peas and cabbage. Then there was the scrumptious dessert of fruitcake! The downside which seems to be a consistent criticism is the lack of prompt service.Vegetarian options: Love the side of cabbage! Flavorful!Kid friendliness: They have a varied children’s menu!
