"Hadn’t been to Benson’s in a while, it’s a small restaurant and usually busy, but I had read some comments lately about how good the food is, so my son, granddaughter, and I tried it on a Saturday morning about 10am. Had to wait 5 minutes for a table. The waitstaff moved quickly and efficiently and were very welcoming and very attentive. They moved about the small space with the intention of keeping the customers fed and taken care of. The restaurant was very clean. I was intrigued by the Gotcha description even tho I usually don’t care for current day versions of biscuits and sausage gravy. I couldn’t imagine how it could be served without being a soggy mess. Anyway, I decided to try it, added cheese and onions to the hashbrowns, and asked for bacon on the side rather than stacked. Coffee cups were kept filled. Service was fast, the restaurant was full the entire time we were there. I was completely Gobsmacked by the Gotcha. The biscuit on the bottom was not soggy, I could taste the firmness of the outside and fluffy of the inside. The hashbrowns were crisp with just the right amount of cheddar so you could see and taste it. Eggs were scrambled. The side of bacon was cooked just crisp enough. The crowning glory was the white gravy (no sausage, the gravy stood alone! with a decent amount of black pepper, it really was a lovely dish! This is the gravy of my childhood which was a staple, either for breakfast or for supper to accent a platter of fried chicken and mashed potatoes. My greatest compliment of this dish is that is that it was not over salted. I have a great sensitivity/dislike of high sodium foods and I know this dish lends itself to high sodium….but salt was not added to this food to make it more palatable! We were offered the addition of extra spice, jalapeños, choice of hot sauces, but the flavor of the dish held its own, the first taste/flavor was not screaming high sodium! I’m still not sure how this combo worked so well, but it’s a fantastic breakfast and I will be back soon."
