"Terrible experience – simply dreadful. Since moving to Southeast Michigan, I’ve been on the lookout for authentic Thai food, and when I saw the rating for Thai Spoon, I hoped I’d found it. Sadly, it missed the mark. The restaurant feels like a small, rundown spot, and it was freezing inside—the thermostat read 59°F. Seriously? When it’s 38°F outside, you should have the heat on! We ordered five items at the counter, paying just under $30. The food was ready quickly, in under 10 minutes. But the food itself was disappointing. The Tom Yum soup with chicken had no vegetables and, although the broth had some flavor, the soup was served cold. Not surprising given how cold the restaurant was. The basil stir fry contained hardly any basil and was overly salty, plus it was swimming in liquid that even the side of al dente rice couldn’t absorb. The Thai salad was just chopped veggies with tofu that looked like it had been fried the day before. No dressing either, even though the menu said it came with peanut sauce. When I asked for the sauce, they gave me a thick, dark brown paste that didn’t taste like peanuts at all and was hard to mix into the salad. Very disappointing. The shrimp fresh rolls were okay with their sweet vinegar dipping sauce but nothing memorable. The only highlight was the Thai iced tea, which was very tasty. Having eaten authentic Thai food in Thailand and found good Thai restaurants in my travels, I can confidently say this place is not one of them. I cannot recommend Thai Spoon and would advise avoiding it altogether."
