"Mexican restaurants that actually make their own tortillas always get high marks from me and this place does. I had those tortillas wrapped around the Dos XX fish tacos served with rice and beans and it was really, really good. Fish was battered nicely and was crispy and flavorful. My adult supervisor (aka my wife) had a shrimp bowl with absolutely perfectly prepared shrimp along with rice, cilantro rice, and black beans. I also had a house margarita which was quite tasty but didn't have a big kick. A good experience with good food and service in a clean, friendly place. With homemade tortillas. What's not to like?"

The wait time for a table was quite long, and it took even longer to receive our drinks and place our food order. While the staff members were excellent, it seemed like there weren't enough of them—only two waitstaff and one bartender.

On the Border boasts the best salsa in the world. I live up north, but whenever I have the chance to visit friends in the East Valley, we always make it a point to stop by On The Border in Mesa. In my opinion, it's the cleanest restaurant in the area, and the service is consistently excellent. Today, Haylee provided outstanding service; she was very polite and attentive to our order. So, the next time you're in Mesa, be sure to visit On the Border and ask for Haylee—you won't be disappointed!
