"I am a big fan of Edgar Allan Poe, so I was very excited to visit this restaurant. The atmosphere was fantastic, with everything dedicated to Poe, including the names of the drinks and food items. However, I was disappointed by the food. I ordered the Rue Morgue burger and my wife had the fish tacos. My burger was dry and lacked flavor, while her fish tacos were small and flavorless. If you are a fan of Poe, the ambiance is definitely worth experiencing, but the food may leave something to be desired."

Food is good but the attitude/demeanor of the bartender responsible for taking porch orders (lunch service) needs a lot of work. Very rude and demeaning to customers.

What a special bar! If you love Poe come try some food named for his famous works. If you don't care about Poe come for some amazing food. Ask for Carsyn, she was fantastic!

The burgers were fantastic, and our vegan son enjoyed his veggie burger patty on a salad. The fries could certainly use improvement. Service was great, and of course it’s a really cool atmosphere.

Carson was our waitress and she was the best! Very attentive and very welcoming. The food is amazing and the burgers are the top three best that I’ve ever had! Go here and you won’t be disappointed! View menu

Anything with the chili on it is great. We had the nachos and they were delicious. We also had the Annabelle Lee and it was a great burger. The top portion of the bun was too thick, that’s a weird thing to say but I don’t know how else to describe it. Waitress was excellent!

I love this spot. I come here every time I visit Sullivan Island. The burgers are amazing. Perfectly cooked, great service, the **** Mary is always a hit and I've never had a bad experience! The walls are covered with Poe memorabilia and articles and references of Poe. Even the bathroom walls are unique! Check it out if you get the chance. You won't be disappointed.

I had a great experience at this tavern/restaurant, especially with the delicious chicken quesadillas. The waitress was attentive and made sure all our needs were met. The only downside was that it was quite noisy inside due to the music and crowded atmosphere. Despite this, the food quality was excellent and our group enjoyed it. I definitely plan on returning in the future! View menu

Burgers and beers. What is there not to love? Everything does seem to be a couple of bucks overpriced, but you can say that about most things these days. See the $9 pints. I am confused at the 3%service fee. I paid in cash and was still charged. It looks like they are trying to cover the credit card processing fee, but you are taxed this 3% no matter what. Not cool, Poe. Not cool.

The atmosphere is fantastic! The bathrooms are small, the soap dispenser was broken, and there were no towels. We started with a delicious queso appetizer and ordered burgers. The burgers were thick but overcooked - I asked for mine medium rare, my husband asked for his medium, but they both came out medium well. The kitchen was very busy, so I just added extra sauce instead of requesting a remake. However, the cheese fries were amazing - I would definitely recommend them.

"However, my biggest complaint was about the pitcher and saucer setup in the back dining room by the water. I'm not sure if there are other similar setups in the restaurant, but this was my experience. It was completely unhygienic! They kept the pitchers right behind the guests, where hair and other debris could easily fall into them or come into contact. I only noticed the setup when one of the servers grabbed a pitcher, and I felt a wet smack on my back, realizing my hair had been in it and had fallen onto the saucers below. We informed the staff about what happened, and they changed the water and attempted to put it back. I refused, explaining how unhygienic it was and that it could happen again. Surely, I couldn't be the first person this has happened to. Eventually, another server discreetly tried to take the pitcher back, and once again, it caught my hair. To prevent them from placing it back, I put a salt shaker on top of the plates. (I’ve attached a picture to show how close it was.) On the other side of the aisle, we noticed a similar situation where a man kept taking off his hat and brushing his head against the saucers and pitcher behind him. Because of this experience, I won't be returning, and I highly recommend looking elsewhere. Even though the food quality was decent, there are many better places to spend your money in Charleston. If this is how they operate in the dining room, I can only imagine what health codes they might be violating in the kitchen."
