"I recently visited Volcano Sushi in Chicago and was quite disappointed with my experience. The sushi was subpar and the service was lacking.I ordered a vegetarian sushi roll and was disappointed with the quality of the ingredients. It kept falling apart and didn't taste authentic. The presentation of the dish was also lacking it was haphazardly put together and didn't look appetizing. I also ordered noodles which were a bit better than sushi. Had to add sauces for more flavor though. The service at Volcano Sushi was also lacking. Our server seemed uninterested in providing a good experience and was slow to refill drinks and check on the table. The restaurant itself has a casual, no frills atmosphere which was fine, but the overall vibe was a little chaotic and unprofessional.Overall, I was quite disappointed with my experience at Volcano Sushi and would not recommend it to others. I'd give it 2 out of 5 stars."

Some of the cold sushi seemed to be warm as if it sat out too long before serving but over all it was okay.

I had the all-you-can-eat dinner for $31, and it was definitely worth it! The sushi was fresh and tasty, and the rolls were excellent too. Food: 5/5.

Food was good… until I found a sharp piece of glass? Or metal in my rice… very disappointed because I really liked this spot but now I’m a bit nervous to return.

Great neighborhood restaurant for some comfort food sushi! Friendly staff with awesome service and effective communication! New owner took over the restaurant with bad/mediocre reviews since 8/2022 so don't be deterred if looking at the old ones : The mood is chill and food was ON POINT. View menu

I ordered 3 rolls, one of them being a sweet potato roll (which I asked if they could make as they don?t have this explicitly on the menu, and she told me yes). Clearly she misunderstood me because they gave me a Philadelphia roll instead. There was alsothis mysterious particle on the roll that looks to be like an eyelash?

The sushi rolls didn't look very appealing; they resembled cat food. My girlfriend took a bite of hers and discovered a long piece of fat inside, which made her gag and she couldn't finish it. I was also put off and left my sushi uneaten. The atmosphere was rather gloomy, but on a positive note, our waitress was very friendly and attentive.

The food was absolutely delightful! The fish was fresh, and the dressing had great flavor. Its proximity to UIC makes it an ideal place for a quick bite. The staff is very friendly, and the atmosphere is pleasantly relaxed. The new owner, who took charge eight months ago, has revitalized the restaurant and made some impressive enhancements. I highly recommend it! View menu

I would not recommend this restaurant. The food quality is poor, and it's obvious why. It was bland and mushy. Honestly, I've never had worse sushi. I know this may sound harsh, but I’m just being honest. My friend ordered the hibachi, which looked okay, but it wasn't enough to make me want to come back. Don't be fooled by the all-you-can-eat deal. Food rating: 1/5.

Honestly, don't expect too much when you visit this place. I called to place an order and they just answered with a “yes?” which I found amusing. The sushi was surprisingly warm, even though I took it home in the cold. It was just the spicy salmon, so the rice must have been pretty hot or something. I think Volcano Sushi perfectly represents the food scene around UIC and Taylor Street: I really don't understand why people rave about it—it's just average, to be honest.

"Tempesta is arguably one of the best sandwich shops in the city. They make a lot of their meats in house and use high quality ingredients so you know you’re getting the good stuff. Not only can you get a great sandwich, you can purchase most of their meats to go as well as other small artisanal grocery items. I have tried almost every sandwich they have on the menu but my top two choices would be the #1 The Dante and the #2 Yo! Vincenzo! The Dante is their version of a classic Italian sandwich but a bit on the spicier side. The Yo Vincenzo is a chicken parm and I personally think it’s the best chicken parm sandwich in the city. The chicken is perfectly crispy, and they use just the right amount of sauce where it doesn’t get soggy. Both of these sandwiches come on their fresh baguette which helps set them apart from other sandwich spots in Chicago just because of how good it is. The B Franklin is also a great option, and if you’re starving get the Wagyu Pastrami but be warned it is a very heavy sandwich because of that Wagyu. The last pro tip I’ll add in here is order your sandwich ahead of time if you’re doing takeout. This is a very popular spot and is always busy during the lunch rush so if you wait to order until you arrive you may need to wait for 10-15 minutes. That should speak to how good this place is because it’s in such high demand, so if you’re in Chicago make sure you stop in!"
