"A few months later, while scrolling through the community page on Facebook (Knightdale Community Information is quite entertaining, but that's another story), I saw someone mentioning Mike’s. I immediately jumped in to inquire if they had any taste buds because Mike had a new cook, and apparently, the food was now fabulous. After some considerable persuasion, I convinced my husband and son to hop in the truck for the short three-minute drive to give Mike's another shot.
We arrived around 7 PM and noticed only two other tables were occupied, which made me a little anxious since I was starving and worried our meal might disappoint again. Our waitress, Claudia (I think that was her name), was wonderful—very patient with my excited five-year-old who was thrilled to be getting pizza, especially after I had suggested pizza for dinner earlier that day.
We placed our orders: my husband chose the shrimp scampi, my son, of course, ordered pizza, and I opted for the cheese ravioli. Yes, I know, not very adventurous, but I was still skeptical from our last visit. Then came the bread and salads—real bread! Warm, tasty, and definitely not pizza crust. I love bread!
Next, our entrees arrived. My son’s pizza was massive! He ordered from the children’s menu for about $5.50, and it was delicious (yes, I had to steal a bite!). My husband’s shrimp scampi was also good, with at least seven large and tasty shrimp. It had a bit more lemon than he preferred, but overall, it was still enjoyable. At $14.99, it was very reasonably priced for such a generous portion of shrimp.
As for my cheese ravioli, it was amazing! The sauce they were served in was divine—a tomato cream sauce, I believe. It was so good that if I could, I would take a gallon of it home! My dish was $10.99, and the portion sizes were generous. Had I not been so hungry, I would definitely have taken some home. My husband and son brought back leftovers, which made for lunch today—score!
When the bill came, I was pleasantly surprised, seeing it totaled about $38 (before the tip). Given that my husband and son had leftovers for the next day’s lunch, it felt like a win! The food was fantastic, the staff was great, and I would say this was a successful retry!
As I write this review, I'm seriously considering dinner again tonight to try something more adventurous than the cheese ravioli, clearly prepared by a talented new cook. I absolutely recommend you give it a try—especially if you’ve had a less-than-impressive experience in the past, like we did. I’m so glad we returned; this new cook has truly transformed the place!"
