"I adore this restaurant. Golden Hill is filled with many many quality eateries, and Counterpoint anchors the neighborhood with it's fun atmosphere and dedication to quality. They recently renovated and the new space is open, airy and provides a variety of seating options: bar seating, restaurant seating, and upper balcony (I use this as a quiet place to WFH during the week), and an outdoor patio. I'm partial to the biscuit and gravy for breakfast, but the brined chicken and waffles or breakfast hash always makes me smile and sends me unto the world with a better outlook on life and a doggie bag. When it's hot, delicious crunchy salads are on the lunch menu and the craft beers and unique slushy flavors change. Counterpoint takes the quality of food and libations seriously. The craft cocktails rotate as the bartenders are encouraged to explore and grow. The owner and team are always warm, welcoming and make sure you have a good experience. Did I mention they are DOG friendly? Definitely worth the trip up the hill from downtown if you're looking to wind down after an event or precharge and eat before a baseball game. I love to bring my friends for a snack (try the olive selection) and chat on a twilight night. Space heaters outside if you get cold. Fans inside if you get warm. Honestly if you live in or are visiting the 92102 area code you should go to Counterpoint: good food, really good cocktails, and great company. It is clear that this establishment cares about quality, cares about your comfort and loves if you have a good time."

"I was recently lucky enough to try one for the first time and totally loved it!The glazed donut had a wonderfully sweet scent to it that was not overwhelming, but rather pleasant and inviting. The dough was so light and fluffy, it melted in my mouth. The glaze added just enough of an exotic flavor to enhance the overall experience. The chocolate glaze added a lot of texture and the perfect accent to the flavor.I was really impressed with the presentation of the chocolate donut. It was beautifully decorated with the chocolate and drizzled with glaze. I couldn't help but take some milk to wash it down with.My overall experience with rose donuts was delicious. If you're looking for something a little out of the ordinary, I highly recommend trying rose donuts. You won't be disappointed!"

"We learned about this place from our waitperson at The Plot in Oceanside. What a find. You've got to walk up a lot of stairs to get there, and when you do, what a pay-off. It's on the roof, some seats have an ocean view, there's a yoga class going on next to the tables, and the food is truly healthful, beautiful, and delicious. It really was my idea of Vegan Heaven. We bought three entrees for two of us, so we could taste more. (Okay, this was the downside, a $60+ lunch). Everything was perfect."

"The peanut butter frozen yogurt with strawberries was exceptionally delightful. The presentation was aesthetically pleasing, and the portion size was generous. The s'more crepe was equally delectable. The addition of banana was an unexpected but harmonious touch that enhanced the overall flavor profile."

"Loved this restaurant. Great outdoor seating area. Superb food and service. The margaritas were phenomenal, the tacos outstanding, the salsa bar excellent, and the chicharonnes fabulous! We tried the swordfish, chicken al pastor, and filet mignon tacos. All were delicious. The salsa bar had 4 very different salsas, and all were excellent and very spicy! The Hot Sauce margarita was very spicy (level 2) and very good. Loved how spicy they make their dishes and drinks. Would highly recommend this restaurant."

"Food was amazing so props to the chefs. Appetiser came out super fast. But when it came to the mains, they took 45 mins to arrive (after prompting). Not to mention people that were seated about 30 mins after us had already received their mains. After receiving the bill, and waiting 10 mins for the server. One of our party went to expedite the process, only to find them chatting with other wait staff. Near the kitchen. All in all. If you want great food. Come here. If you have deadlines or not much time to crunch. Find an alternative spot."

"This restaurant in La Jolla is our favorite. Chef Maeve's bakery and restaurant are top-notch. The staff is wonderful and the food and pastries are exceptional. We appreciate being able to dine with our dogs on the terrace while still receiving excellent service. We have never been let down by anything here. The Guinness stew, shepherd's pie, chicken smolts, BLAT sandwich, brioche French toast, traditional breakfast, and endless pastries are all incredible. We will make sure to visit La Jolla on every trip."

"This place really got the burrito right! I got the California burrito because of the reviews and it is really spectacular. The two salsas were great. Both are hot. The burrito is huge and a good mix of texture and flavor, not dry, and I think the potatoportion of the filling is French fries which works well. It's much better than that sounds. I live in El Paso, Texas and thiscompares well to the best local food there. The place is very small, with two tables and mostly takeout. It is decorated with asense of humor. I really don't understand any criticism in the reviews. I just love it although I was planning to get seafoodtonight. I will go out of my way to have this again."

"We went for my wife 's birthday. Easy to make reservations and they had made a customized menu (with her name), which was very nice. However, they seated us in an odd seat, where we faced this poor couple all evening from the side, and we had the loudest drunk people at the table next to us. We could barely hear each other. The appetizer was good, and the lamb was good. But my wife 's steak was fatty/Tough and not good at all. The desert selection was poor, and we didn 't pick anything. They brought out a happy birthday small plate as we were leaving, after we had paid! The server was sweet, but overall service wasn 't in the class we would expect. The front desk girl even laughed as we walked out (weird uncomfortable). We had been there a few times before and always had a good experience really disappointed for this one."

"Last night, we had a great dinner experience at this restaurant while visiting our daughter. The ambiance was wonderful, although it can get loud with large parties on Friday nights. My daughter and I are vegan, while my husband is not, so we always look for places with options for all of us. The waitress was helpful and suggested they could make bruschetta with tomatoes for us, which was a nice touch. We shared the bruschetta and a vegan pizza, and it was more than enough food as the portions are generous. While it would be nice if they offered more vegan options or specials, like lasagna or raviolis, the pizza was delicious with eggplant, tomatoes, fresh basil, and vegan feta cheese. They also have sorbet for dessert, but we opted to go across the street for a wider variety of vegan ice cream flavors. We love coming to the La Jolla Shores area when we visit."

"Fantastic date night. After an exhausting work week this was the ideal place for a little extravagance. The veal chop and the scallops were amazing. Really enjoyed the service, staff and hospitality. One of La Jolla’s hidden gems."

"Breaked in for a snack. The place was enchanting and so much variety. They looked like a family business or at least they treated themselves like that. The line was mentally and very long due to the design of the branch, but somehow managed to keep the line really good weaving in and apart find ways to help customers to talk organized chaos so. I have an apple litter and it was amazing. My daughter got a cranberry muffin and she and I both tried it and it didn't have much taste, but the texture and moisture were good. I'd go back, but maybe not the cranberry muffin. I'm sorry."

"The salad and pasta were very tasty and the portion size was generous, especially for the price. My salad was greens, apple slices, cranberries and a mildly oily viniagrette, and the pasta had lots of spaghetti and meat sauce. I prefer a little more seasoning than was included, but I live in a part of the country where extra seasoning is normal. I was very pleased with the meal. I also really liked the coziness of the restaurant. They had outside seating which was very inviting, but I wanted to be inside for the decor and out of the wind. There are many good Italian venues, Bernini's is one of them. I would go back."

"I regret dining here. The woman who set our table touched every part of our cutlery with her bare hands after handling menus, which made me feel uncomfortable, like they were not clean to use and eat with. I placed my order and they put in the wrong dish, so they had to remake my plate. Usually when a restaurant gets something like that wrong they partially comp the dish, but instead they charged me $26 for a dish that was listed as $22 in the menu. We were also charged $2 for a basket of bread that we didn’t request… it was just placed on our table (by the same woman who touched the silverware all over). The water bottle that was placed on our table was dirty and unlabeled, while every other table had a clean, labeled Aqua Panna bottle. We saw the table next to us receive amazing service and treatment and we were confused why we were treated so poorly. Will never dine here again. Diner beware!"

"I will begin to say that it is difficult to find a good eating in san diego, so I really appreciate Nine-Ten for one of the few. this was a return trip for my wife and me, and a first visit for our four friends who joined us. we all met in the tasting menu menu menu menu dinner. the six of us sat on a long table more suitable for eight, which made it difficult to converse in particular with the oppressing noise level. the noise level ruined what was otherwise an excellent experience, hardly in the position to hear each other or to hear the server that describes eating and crying. the food and service was excellent, but not as good as I remember a few years ago. the scallops, trufflepasta and ribeye courses were unforgettable, the other courses could not be so much, but not everyone cursor. the wine pairings were on the place and supplemented the eating and any wine pairing I've ever had. at the end we all enjoyed eating, but eating or experience not worth the $250 price tag per person. I think the attenuation of the noise level would go a long way to increase the value and to withdraw us another time."

"When I looked at the reviews for the restaurant there were many and, unfortunately, I ignored the ones that said that both the service and the food were subpar as I figured those were just picky eaters. I wish I had listened because the service was actually too quick. We had barely sat down when the waiter asked us if we wanted drinks and then wanted to take our food order at the same time. We were out of there in 50 minutes which certainly did not feel like dining. We split a ceasar salad. I had veal piccata and my husband had halibut. In retrospect, we should have returned all three things we ordered. I wish the food and service had been as good as the ambience which really was cute. Will not return."

"My friend and I made a reservation for 6:30 a.m. on a Sunday, but when we arrived, it didn't seem like it was needed. We started with the soup of the day, which featured bacon and pinto beans (not pictured), and a soup with yellow curry. Both were outstanding. For our main courses, we had the prepkitchen burger and a quarter chicken. The service was excellent, and the food was fantastic. I will definitely return to try more items from their menu!"

"Over the past 30 years, with an estimated 1,500 visits, most of my food orders have been straightforward, making the process simple. However, I’ve encountered a few disappointing moments during my visits. As someone familiar with the restaurant industry, I understand that issues can arise, but the problems I've experienced at Papa's Pizza seem to be isolated incidents that shouldn't occur. Out of my 1,500 visits, there were only eight occasions where I had issues. The main concern is that the staff has consistently refused to acknowledge any mistakes on their part, even when I can clearly prove the error. In four of those eight incidents, the remedy provided was inadequate. Twice, I encountered situations where I couldn't pay with a loan, leading me to personally pay for my companions' meals out of pocket and then try to redeem credit later. On my most recent visit, the resolution offered was entirely impractical. The person I spoke with suggested that if my order was wrong, I would have to wait until the food was redelivered. Unfortunately, I was pressed for time and couldn't afford to go through the entire process again. The alternative she provided was that on my next order, I could receive additional toppings at no extra charge. This meant that I would still end up paying the full amount for my current meal, which didn’t include any extras, but could potentially receive some additional ingredients next time. After being a loyal customer for three decades, this is not the sort of treatment one expects. Overall, these experiences make me hesitant to trust them with the food I serve to my loved ones. How would you feel about service like this?"

"I wanted to try something new and I'm tired of chain-stuck houses. read the reviews of this small restaurant and decided to give it an attempt. our server was a very accommodating young man. the restaurant was like a small cantina at sea in mexiko. the food was met or missed depending on the product. the salate and calamari were excellent. my spaghetti and meatballs were simply edible! no taste for the sauce and the meatballs were hard and tasteless. the pepperoni pizza was literally the worst pizza of all time, and the pasta dinners of my children were very good! overall I would go again! they are fair with their shooting per glass."

"I want this place to improve really badly because we frequent this area. Each time we order, the food lacks the flavor and spices that nearby restaurants consistently put out (Soi on 30th and Thai Time), while Bangkok Spices charges the same if not slightly more. I ordered Panang curry at 10/10 spice, and it is clearly mild with no flavor other than sweetness. The Pad Thai had consistency of mushy frozen food and also no spice and little flavor. Bangkok Spices, I recommend you try the food of your nearby competitors and see how you can offer something delicious and worth visiting for."
