"Ordered the fried catfish jambalaya with a side order of hush puppies and 3 piece catfish basket that includes fries and hush puppies with coleslaw. The temperature and taste of the food was good. The jambalaya was a bit spicy for my taste, and the catfish was thinly cut. So much so that sections of the pieces were too hard to consume. The sweet tea mixed with fresh lemonade was very good. The hush puppies were excellent; the side order was huge. Very much worth the extra $2! Would visit again but would order more pieces of catfish if getting the basket again."

"The catfish is consistently well-seasoned, served hot, and incredibly tasty. For me, that's what truly matters at a restaurant called Catfish House. However, there are some downsides. In a four-piece combo, there tends to be one smaller fillet, which can be disappointing. On another occasion, the fries served were clearly old and had been fried again; they were quite unappetizing. Additionally, I must mention that the dining area leaves much to be desired—there are many items on the walls covered in layers of dust and spider webs, which is quite off-putting. Nonetheless, as I mentioned earlier, the fried catfish is definitely the highlight, so I recommend ordering it to-go and enjoying it in the comfort of your own home."

"We recently held a baby shower for our daughter at Bateman's Express in Rosedale. I can't express enough how smoothly the day went. Steve and his staff were fantastic. We had around 60 guests, including children, and the staff was on top of everything. The food was excellent and the catering menu suited our needs perfectly. They were attentive and personable. I highly recommend choosing Bateman's for any event, big or small. Thank you to Steve and his wonderful staff for a job well done."

"The relaxed, quieter atmosphere makes it the perfect spot for breakfast, in my opinion. They recently introduced some new menu items, so we decided to try one of them. We opted for the Philly Rolls with Queso, and they were arguably the best Philly-inspired dish I've had in Grand Forks! I've never had a bad meal here; I usually stick to the Northside Skillet or the Garbage Omelette with a side of Hollandaise. If they happen to be out of Hollandaise that day, I go for the Stuffed Country Skillet."

"Food is tasty but not rich rich in flavor, the plates are all the same- uniform- no judgement either. The rainbow trout was good, with the garlic butter and some zucchini, glad I had the meal. Food was better than the establishment appeared, Theportions a good sized. Bottled beer is also available. The decor is stale."

"We waited a hr for our order to be taken while people who arrived after us came first. . The waitress took forever to come back to pay the bill ... place was packed full loud and chaotic. Food was good when it finally came. The problem was this was extremely expensive considering the environment. I expected 35 40 max it was almost 60 dollars plus for some of the worst table service we've ever received in Northern mi. I like the food. I am sad about the service and the overpriced food."

"This charming little diner offers delightful home-style cooking that is always prepared fresh and tastes incredible. The staff is friendly and attentive, and even when they're busy, they consistently provide excellent service. The desserts have that homemade quality and are always delicious. It's truly one of my favorite places to eat!"

"For how restaurants are today, this was a great diner for a family environment. I have eaten here 3 times now (one was breakfast takeout), and I got nothing to complain about. Everything was good. Specifically, I would given them great praise on two things. The first, is that the portion of food that you get and it’s quality is phenomenal. It’s very rare that I feel full after just one entree, but this place accomplished just that. You will get your money’s worth here. The second thing I would mention was the “feel” of eating there. It was relaxed and I fell like I was in a diner in Superman II where Clark Kent was gonna walk in. The foot came hot and fast! The staff is friendly."

"My brother was visiting, and although the Flying Fish isn't one of our usual spots, we've dined at other locations in the past. We both ordered catfish fillets, which we really enjoy. The batter on the fish was fantastic—light and crispy without overwhelming the meat. I also love the way they prepare their French fries. The decor, featuring flying fish and talking fish themes, is fun to look at as well. My brother, who is from Florida and regularly eats seafood, thoroughly enjoyed his meal and said it was very delicious."

"My daughter and I visited this restaurant for the first time today and my review is mixed. My daughter ordered the fried chicken breakfast, over medium fried egg, home fries and biscuit with gravy on the side. The chicken was good and hot, the biscuit good, the potatoes hard and cold and the gravy cold and quite firm. I ordered the BLT with fries and a slice of coconut cream pie. The tomatoes and lettuce were super fresh and flavorful, the bacon had good favor but was like jerky, the bread was good but I don't care for cold toast. Fries were barely warm. The pie had OK flavor but the pie mixture was much more firm than I am used to. Now to service...there were a few waitresses working and they were not that busy. After a little wait our order was taken, but we did wait a while before we got our food. We did see it sitting up on the counter for a while and we did see her look at it twice and go do something else before bringing it out to us. We didn't see her again while we were eating."

"Definitely a place anybody should visit at least once, and then maybe more if you love it. We were so confused when the GPS brought us to some place that looks like a hole in the wall built from an old gas station. My daughter did not want to go in, but we're glad we did. Absolutely unique and adorable decor, lots of ambiance, lots of things to look at. They have a great menu and if we come back, would love to try some different things. We ordered the catfish and shrimp platter with a side of calamari. The shrimp were great, the catfish was pretty good but definitely needs more spices in the batter. Batter. The calamari was a little disappointing. Disappointing. Extremely overcooked and hard and dry, but I feel like that's pretty common in Houston so you might be okay with it if that's what you're used to. Next time, I definitely want to try the chowders or gumbo and some other dishes. Kids will love it and adults will too."

"Tom's fried zucchini sticks are still the best! They are fresh, lightly battered and fried to perfection, leaving them crispy and flavorful. I always bring someone to share in these delicious treats. I have been a loyal customer for almost 20 years and will continue to return for more."

"My wife ordered the grilled shrimp with fries, while I chose the catfish with red beans and rice. I did find it unexpected that the taco came with a hard corn shell instead of a flour tortilla. The initial presentation seemed a bit basic, but the flavors and textures were spot on. The crispy shell added a wonderful crunch to the taco, and both the shrimp and catfish were cooked to perfection. I particularly enjoyed the coleslaw and pico de gallo that accompanied our meals, though my wife felt that the slaw was on the sweeter side. Overall, it was a great experience. From the friendly service at checkout to the comfortable atmosphere and cool terrace, everything was enjoyable. We are already looking forward to our next visit!"

"My family and I went to the Ickey Nickel yesterday and everything has gone way down hill. All the prices were taken off the menu. My moms sampler platter was 19 dollars for two onion rings and 4 pieces of chicken. I ordered the stuffed jalapeño burger and instead of it being a stuffed burger it came with two patties, also $19. The service was slow and it wasn’t very busy to begin with. The waitress said they were out of like 10 different menu items to us and overheard from other tables. We waited 20 minutes to get our checks cashed out and had to go up to the bar to do so. $19 for a burger isn’t worth it, this is supposed to be a hole in the wall, but has Kahills prices. Frick no, not ever again."

"The food we received was excellent and came out quickly. My big rubber bag (surprisingly delicious) was substantial and satisfying. Gumbo is usually quite tasty in the South, but this was exceptional—it exceeded my expectations. It was served with a fried bread I hadn’t tried before, and I’ll definitely seek it out again. We also enjoyed catfish fillets, fried shrimp, and fried oysters, all beautifully seasoned and prepared. The chicken wings rounded out the meal and were quite good as well. The sides provoked their own praise; the coleslaw and french fries were very enjoyable, but the standout was the red beans and rice—it was the best I've ever had, even better than my own recipe. The staff were friendly, and the service was prompt. Prices were a bit on the higher side, but given the quality of the food, it was definitely justified. The menu was well-designed, offering flexible options to mix and match your choices—3 or 6 of one item, 2 or 4 of another, etc. Overall, this was a fantastic meal, and I would happily return. There are reportedly 51 locations of Sams Southern Eatery across the USA, primarily in the central and southern states. So, if you come across one, don't hesitate to pop in for a hearty southern meal."
