"My friends and I went out to Koen for the first time last night and it was the BEST dining experience so far. There were three of us, so we ordered the Samurai course. The appetizers were delicious and plentiful. The Samurai comes with several appetizers, but we also ordered the fried gyoza (very yummy! . We ate all the appetizers and they did their job by building an appetite, so we had plenty if room for the main course. Our server then turned on the grill and showed us (not told us how to use it so we could fully enjoy the experience. The grilling was probably the most fun. You have full control over how long your meats are cooked for. The Samurai comes with plenty of delicious meats, but we also ordered sliced short rib (definitely recommend! . The overall experience of the grilling makes the trip far more worth it. Then, after we were done with the main course, our server brought us tempura ice cream for dessert (also included in the Samurai package . We honestly didn't expect the large portion size we were given, so we were excited when he brought it out. It was TO DIE FOR!! All-in-all, you should definitely consider going to Koen with some friends or a date. The experience will definitely leave you wanting to come back (I'm checking with my friends on when we'll go next, lol . I will say, if you want to go on a night like Friday or Saturday, make a reservation. It was so busy last night that even with a reservation, we had to wait 30 minutes. We didn't mind, tho, because the food and experience didn't disappoint. Also, make sure you're planning to spend some because an experience as good as this won't be super cheap. If splitting with friends, expect to be paying between 30- 50 with tip (depends on what you order and how many friends you're dining with . Totally worth it, tho!!"

"A disappointing dining experience to say the least. The establishment was completely empty at 5pm. First red flag. Nobody. In the theater district no less on a Thursday night, right before graduation. Ordered the tuna sashimi, Cleveland onion soup and a filet. The tuna wasn't bad, but zero sauce ? no soy, no ponzu. Lots of avocado and fluff. Not bad though. Cleveland onion soup was very tasty. Best item I ordered. For some terrible reason our entrees were served three at a time. We had nine in our party, 9, then after waiting at least 5 minutes, no joke, three more came. Then, again, after waiting five more minutes, the final three came. It took at least 10 minutes from the first entee placed to the final was set. Food was cold by this time. Ridiculous. Our server was completely unfazed serving us this way. More on him later. Then my entree. I ordered my filet medium. When served, by just looking at it, I could tell it was under temp. I sliced it, and it was blue rare. Very cold center. After waiting a couple minutes, we found another server to take my food back for a recook. Everyone was finished eating at this point when my food was returned. Only now it was still rare, was a slightly less cold center. I think it just sat under a heat lamp. I was starving and couldn't wait for a third recook. Ate what I could. The quality of the meat seemed great, unfortunately the chef there clearly could care less about proper temperatures. No manager appearance either...... Our server forgot drink orders, couldn't be found, and auctioned of food at the table. Just couldn't grasp marking a table as to who got what. On the way out, we saw a cook relaxing at the bar, guess he had a rough shift,,,,, it 6:30....... So many choices to dine downtown, this is not one to impress a guest."

"This has to be one of the worst dining experiences in recent memory. The restaurant had absolutely no atmosphere having only 4 occupied tables filled at 7pm on the Saturday before Father’s Day should have been the first sign that things were bad, but it was definitely confirmed thereafter. The server was friendly enough, but they hound you to order immediately; there’s no space given to sit down, talk and relax into your table. We asked for some time to look over menu, but he was back literally within less than two minutes and stood there until we ordered wine. It did not make for a relaxing experience unfortunately. Food was terrible. Bread was stale and you get only two tiny bits for the table. The burrata/prosciutto appetizer was awful for a start it wasn’t prosciutto, it was shredded sandwich ham scattered all over smeared cheese that tasted like ricotta, not burrata. Quite why they do this to burrata (even if it was) is beyond me. You can get a beautiful burrata appetizer at the tapas restaurant across the road at half the price. The Brussels sprouts were blackened to the point where they looked like enormous lumps of coal. We decided to cut our loses, paid check, and left. Something has gone wrong with this restaurant which is a shame because it could be great. The lack of atmosphere, expensive menu for no quality, oppressive and impatient service does not make for an enjoyable dining experience. There are plenty of other good choices in the area to enjoy. Disappointing all round. I was shocked because other reviews speak highly which is bizarre given the experience we had, but I would advise others to dine elsewhere in Mountain View."
