Merrill Houston's Steak Joint

This is our second visit, and we travel an hour to get here. The food and atmosphere are incredible, and the place is still bustling at 9:30 PM!

What a lovely place to celebrate a 67th anniversary. Beautiful table on the river. Great cocktails. Amazing staff. Wonderful food. Can't wait to go again.

The steaks, cocktails, service, and ambiance were all outstanding. Both the ribeye and center-cut filet mignon were exceptional, while the crab cakes were tasty. The Wisconsin old fashioned was spot on. View menu

I had a wonderful experience dining at Merrill Houston's! The food was of unbeatable quality, and the service was outstanding. The atmosphere was inviting, and the martinis were fantastic. Overall, it was a delightful visit!

Disappointed. Usually the food and service are excellent here. This time steaks were ok, dry and overcooked Caesar salad was good (regular salad is mixed greens and not that great). What an amazing experience! If you are in the area, come to Beloit and enjoy a wonderful dinner at Merrill Houston’s! The decor and ambiance was perfect for a great local steakhouse. The food was incredible! It was all made better with the exceptional service (thank you Kara, you were so good to us). I can’t recommend it enough.

This is a lovely restaurant. The French onion soup was abundant with cheese, but unfortunately, it lacked flavor, which was disappointing. I ordered the surf and turf; the filet was exceptionally tender and cooked to perfection. The lobster was sizable, but I noticed some black membrane on the back of the tail, something I had never encountered before. On the positive side, the waitstaff was very attentive and catered to all our needs.

This is my second experience at this place, both times I've been extremely disappointed. Apparently the cooks, chefs have no idea what medium rare means. Instead I got well done steaks. I was disappointed in the cut of ribeye, a ribeye should be thick not thin as a piece of paper. With the thinness of the steak cut it's understandable that getting it medium rare could have been a difficult task. We had bruschetta as an appetizer. Needless to say it was a complete and utter failure. The only positive part I can say is the service was excellent our waitress was very very pleasant. View menu
