"The Original Hawaiian Royal w Fried Rice Portugeuse Sausage, Char Sui (Chinese BBQ Pork), Eggs, Fried Rice, Sprouts, Onions 5! Spam Masubi spam, rice, sauce, seawood wrap 5! Hawaiian style Macaroni Salad 5! I am a fan of Hawaiian food partly because it is a wonderfully, eclectic blend of influences from other cuisines and has evolved far enough to have its own distinct culinary identity. Rutt's Hawaiian Cafe, an LA Hawaiian cafe with a few locations around the SoCal area, fully embraces the food that makes Hawaii special. Their menu includes a large list of island favorites. I was drawn towards the Royale dish, which is something that isn't available at lots of other Hawaiian places. A Royale is an egg omelette dish mixed with rice and fillings. I went with their original which includes sausage and char sui and I went for the fried rice version. It was amazing! So much flavor with all the ingredients mixed together. Every bite was magic. It was also insanely filling. I used some of the bbq sauces on the table to add a bit more kick. I love Hawaiian style macaroni salad as well as spam masubi. Had I known how big the royale was, I'd probably have just ordered that but I was keen to try some other items. No regrets! The spam masubi is always a fun dish to have. It is a nice savory sweet combo and hit the spot. Their take on the macaroni salad was also excellent. The restaruant is bright and colorful. I like that a large copy of the menu greets you at the door. There are lots of seats inside and outside on a patio. The servers were friendly and helpful. My server is who convinced me to try the royale. There is a very small parking lot connected to the restaurant but it also looked like there was lots of easy street parking. If you love Hawaiian cuisine or if you are curious what makes a great Hawaiian dish, give Rutt's a try! They have been open for a long time and have a lot of great food in their friendly, colorful location."

"I was welcomed by Howard, the cashier, but I needed a little extra time to make my decision. He was very patient and allowed me to take my time. When another customer received his order, I asked him for suggestions. He mentioned that he really enjoyed the #2 BBQ Platter (or combo) and confessed that he hadn't tried anything else. Shortly after, a woman walked in, noticed I was new to the place, and recommended that I try one of the bowls. I chatted more with Howard, who took the time to explain some of the menu items and inquire about my food preferences. In the end, I decided to go for the #2 BBQ Platter as my starting point. I really appreciated Howard's assistance in navigating the menu. He also mentioned that if I didn’t want the macaroni salad or white rice that came with the platter, I could exchange them for other options listed on the whiteboard. I chose the French fries, which looked delicious in the menu picture. When I got home and opened my overflowing box (it was barely closed—just take a look at the picture!), I sat down for lunch. It turned out to be a generous and tasty meal! The ribs, beef, and chicken were all grilled to perfection and practically melted in my mouth. There was also a refreshing lettuce salad tucked beneath the meat. I definitely intend to return to try the bowls and explore more items on the menu because what I had was truly enjoyable. I recommend this restaurant, especially this location, due to Howard's outstanding customer service. However, I rated the ambiance three stars because I was hoping for a more Hawaiian-inspired décor."

"When the waitress finally took our orders, we expected to be served soon. But then we waited. And waited. It turned into a situation where I wondered if the kitchen was short-staffed—what was going on? After 45 minutes without food, my wife decided to confront the waitress, who had seemingly disappeared since delivering our drinks. The waitress returned after a minute and informed us that our food would be out soon. Yet, it was clear that she had just gone off to do who knows what, especially with so few customers in the restaurant and plenty of staff hanging around idly. My wife, noticing my empty iced tea glass while I was still hungry, commented, "I bet she doesn't even have our order." I had to agree. Sure enough, 15 minutes later, no food in sight and a large party of about eight people, who arrived 20 minutes after us, was already being served. That was the last straw, so we decided to leave. My wife hurried to the waitress to let her know we were leaving and asked to speak to the manager. The manager came out, was very apologetic, and offered to comp our meal. While that was a nice gesture, it felt like the absolute least they could do. If the waitress had addressed our concerns promptly or at least attempted to offer an explanation, that might have been something. Instead, she neglected us, didn’t even check on us, or offer us a simple drink refill. In summary, we ended up staying and eating. Unfortunately, the food was mediocre at best. Overall: Food: Lackluster; Service: Terrible; Ambiance: Generic Sports Bar (though there were plenty of TVs). Save your time and pick a better place. We certainly wish we had."
