"The view is always breath taking....no matter the Season. Our waiter was attentive, the food came as ordered and our table enjoyed the cocktail Cranberry Spritzer. The Rancho Hueveros had just the right mix of spice and the Tortilla was blue corn which I like better. One of the guests at our table wanted only one of the benedict and the waiter was able to have the kitchen accommodate her. Once the Waiter heard one of the guests at our table was celebrating a Birthday he brought a delicious mix of ice cream, whipped creme, hot fudge, and Brownie. It made for a fun Brunch/Lunch."

"I will never visit this restaurant again. Let me begin with the positives. My wife enjoyed the cod dish she ordered. However, the chicken I had was not dry, but it was lacking in juiciness. Thankfully, there was au jus sauce that helped improve its taste. The mashed potatoes that accompanied the chicken were incredibly salty after just a couple of bites, making them inedible. Additionally, there was broccolini on top of the potatoes with an excessive amount of salt sprinkled on top. As a member of the clean plate club, I could not bring myself to finish the meal. Even my wife, who enjoys salty food, found it to be too salty. It seems like the restaurant should stick to running their beer bar upstairs rather than attempting to operate a restaurant. Whenever we visit DC in the spring on our way back home, this will stand out as the worst meal I have ever experienced, even compared to dining at museums. I will never return."

"We visited this restaurant with a group of friends (we were a group of six people). We were seated promptly. The decor and interior design had a contemporary rustic feel to it, and the crowd seemed to be enjoying the food and conversation. The service was very down to earth in fact, maybe a tad too much...The server was jovial but slightly unhinged, he did not have much to say to describe the dishes, and removed glasses without asking if done. We did appreciate some of his casual banter, to distract us from how long the food was taking to arrive...although we had shared a bread plate not exactly substantial we asked from some more after 45 minutes had passed. The host who had been helping out advised us that the food would be right out, and no bread was needed. Pre empting a request for bread is a little out of tune to me especially when the food took yet another 20 minutes to arrive. The food, once delivered, was nothing to write home about. The seasoning and preparation were neither interesting nor did they remind of old world home cooking."

"The Birch is one of our favorite go-to stops because the food is always very good, service is friendly and prompt, it 's nearby on the East side. We like the format of small and large plates to share. It 's easy to get variety and share with friends. Shrimp and grits are tops in the area. Very smooth and flavorful. The pork with oatmeal was a little overdone and the oatmeal was a bit to breakfasty for us, but others may appreciate it. Cocktails and marvelous. As are the mocktails, but missing some ingredients for the latter. Finally, the place could do well to get some sound absorbing material to quiet it down a little bit. But overall, very worth the trip and a fun, intimate spot."
