"This restaurant is filled with wonderful people, delicious food, and excellent service. Our meals arrived before we could even finish our chips, and I have to say, the food was outstanding. "We try our best to give this place a chance after constant bad service. It 's close to our house, but honestly I will never support this restaurant again. I just called to place an order for delivery, 2 tortas and 2 drinks, then the woman tells me that we are blocked from getting food delivered. And I 'm so confused and ask her why? She proceeds to tell me there 's a note that states we made a big order and dejan la comida . As in we didn 't collect our food/left it behind. Iasked her when did this happen since we ordered last week the same thing and we got our food. She couldn 't tell me when or any further explanation. I 'm seriously so tired of their attitude, we have never ordered more than 2 things and wepick up our food most of the time, and almost every single time these women working there have such a stank attitude. Most of the time it 's the night shift women we have issues with. The only time we ever canceled an order was almost 2years ago.. we were coming back from from trip and ordered a bunch of tacos and drinks, I asked the woman how long it would take, she told me 30 mins. We got home and an hour passed by and we didn 't get our food. We live 5mins away so Icalled and asked why it was taking so long and we can just pick it up if the delivery guy was busy. This was in the evening and the woman got annoyed and yelled at me saying they were super busy and it was going to take a while. It wasabout 1hr and and half since we had called in the order.. we didn 't get more than 10 tacos. She proceeded to hang up the phone. I called back and told her we didn 't want it any more. 10mins later the delivery guy came and I apologized tohim and told him he needs to tell the woman that sent him why she sent him because I had told her we canceled our order. BUT the weird thing is, we have ordered from them a few times after that, even though we try to avoid them.. Trying tosupport local businesses here but what can you do when the workers are giving such horrible cus"

"This is a great little spot that's been here for years. It's a mix of Mexican/American cuisine.Drinks are well made and not watered down. I usually like having their menudo or their chilaquiles with a side of margaritas.The atmosphere is casual and layback, with the majority of their costumers being regulars. We'll priced menu as well. It's a good regular spot to come back and back again"

"This restaurant gave me diluted iowa Mexican food vibes. I would use the word 'authentic ' loosely. The menu was missing many Mexican favorites I 've eaten at most restaurants. The queso is delicious! Although it 's weird that they put queso on most of their chicken dishes. Also weird that some menu items some with rice not rice and beans. Pictured is the chicken fajitas and the garlic chicken. Overall food was really good but I could enjoy some of my Mexican favorites because the restaurant didn 't even carry them which I found odd. Also chips didn 't seem like traditional freshly made chips I 've had they were thicker. Would maybe return, I 've had better Mexican food in Iowa city for sure."

"Just dined at this restaurant for the first time and I have too many great things to say about it! The food is absolutely amazing! Fresh, flavorful, and arrives at the table so fast! The staff was awesome, our server Lynette was helpful in choosing good options and giving a great dining experience overall. "Literally full hour wait, staff should’ve presented extensive wait time. Nothing like Clinton Chestnut location (fast and efficient). Could’ve dined in and had complimentary chips and water, at no point by staffing any humility, humble act or compensation. Hardly anyone there to have to wait. Probably one chef back there but man ridiculous experience. Will just have to drive halfway cross town to get or eat food faster. Have been to Lety’s Clinton and Chestnut numerous times. Just wanted to give the smaller location a shot, terrible mistake never again. "(Update: we put a dispute on our credit card...owner is fighting it. In their argument to our bank, they told our bank that they tried to contact us about the order, several times. Note that in the initial owner response to my original post, no mention of trying to contact us. We can easily go to cell phone records to look for missed calls that did not happen. So in a situation where restaurant was not answering their phone all day, and has no voice mail set up, was closed on a day that their stated business hours said they would be open, they told our bank that we should be responsible for the charge because they tried to contact us. Pretty ironic. Again, Beware of Using This Establishment for Catering. )Beware of catering. We ordered from this restaurant a few days in advance for a New Years Eve gathering for about 15 people. They charged our credit card, but when we showed up on New Years Eve the restaurant was closed. The restaurant was dark and no one answered the phone. We had to scramble last minute to order food somewhere else for our party. No sign on the door, no message on the phone, just closed.To owner response: we had no way to know you would make this order since you were closed when we went over a few times during the day. We could not leave a message (we tried calling several times) and no one answered the phone. You also did not tell us you would be closed that day and and you never called us to tell us the order was ready. We had no choice but to assume you would not make the order, and had to scramble last minute to order from somewhere else."

"The decor definitely needs some updating, and the chairs and tables are quite wobbly. Surprisingly, they are very stingy with napkins; I had to ask several times for more, and they would only provide one or two at a time. During my most recent visit, I tried the michelada suprema, but the shrimp that came with it was overcooked, still in its shell, and smothered in hot sauce—hence the need for so many napkins. Overall, the food is fairly average for a Mexican restaurant, with no standout qualities."

"I am not one for americanized Mexican food, which is why the tacos I had here were so refreshing. Shells weren't dried out, the ingredients were fresh, delicious, and reminded me if the kind of food I like to eat at home. The habanero salsa (you gotta ask for it) was a great finishing touch. Service is friendly, but a little disorganized. I will definitely be back for more tacos here."

"Being in my mid 30s, Mexican, and lived in Mexico for a few years as a kid, not including the times I went back for vacation to Mexico, this restaurant El Charro is still my favorite taco place! I had tacos in many restaurants. Alot of good ones, BUT!!! NONE hit the spot for me like the ones from here. They 're always fast too! Good prices! You 'll be the 2nd car at McDonald 's waiting for some garbage food for a long time while I 'm already enjoying the best tacos in the world! Lol I go here often. For almost 30 years now. "Good place to try something different. The coffee and breakfast was good, only and the corn homemade tortillas are delocious. The Tostadas are too big and gets wet and crack easily and too much lettuce over it, not enough meat and the Caldo de Res was also missing a little of flavor. Prices are higher than other Mexican restaurants, restrooms avaiñable inside and enough parking spaces. Enjoy your visit."

"The vegetarian burrito was bad, I don't know how their other food is. But the lady who gave me the food seemed very nice. If the vegetables were chopped smaller it probably would have been more edible but there were just giant chunks of carrots and potatoes all throughout as well as some rotting zucchini and celery for some reason. The cheese was only on top of the burrito and there didn't seem to be much salt. Overall not a pleasant meal at all but I do appreciate the kindness of the employee I met."
