"It hurts to say, but this was the most REGRETTABLE food experiences I 've had. My family is against letting food go to waste if no one wants it, at least let our dog or cats have it but we ended up throwing out all the sides to the trash. Sometimes food is okay, could 've been better or just not your cup of tea, but this was downright horrendous and a waste of nearly $85. Just go to Popeye 's instead. I 'm not sure who I 'm more disappointed with: those who prepared the food or everyone that 's been giving this place four and five star reviews. We got fried chicken, shrimp jambalaya, chicken creole, chicken sandwiches, and sides (potato salad, toast, yams, greens, and clam chowder). I enjoy trying new cuisines here in the Valley, but I will not ever come back here even if the food was on the house and here 's why. First of all, we waited inside nearly 40 minutes for our food. While you look around at the Mardi Gras beads on the chairs and decorations on the shelves, t 's hard to not notice the stained floors. The linoleum has probably been like that for a long time, despite how many times they mop, but it certainly makes you wonder what condition the kitchen is in. So what right I thought. A lot of buildings in the valley haven 't been renovated for decades. Plus, its expensive and restaurants have overhead and staff to pay. At the end of the day we came for the food right? Now, the food itself was horrible. If I could describe it with a meme, it 'd be the middle aged white guy saying You 're not that guy pal. Trust me, you 're not that guy. My mom described the fried chicken as lacking seasoning, smelling funky, and tasting like it was fried in oil that had not been changed in a long time. My sister, who had a fried chicken sandwich, also said it tasted like old oil instead of the spicy Creole seasoning it is described as. My brother and I had the Chicken creole and shrimp jambalaya, respectively. It was reminiscent of middle school forcing myself to eat the cafeteria food cause I forgot my lunch at home. Worst of all were the sides (seen in the pictures above). The potato salad? Tasted like mayonnaise flavored whipped cream. The clam chowder? Gerber with specks of clam. The yams? Mush in a light watery cinnamon and sugar syrup. The greens? Salty, bitter, with the stems still on. Even the toast was bad: it tasted like the crumbs at the bottom of the toaster that haven 't been tossed out in a week. We were gonna get mac n cheese instead of yams, but our server said it was not great today, so if this was the best they had to offer....yikes. For a soul food restaurant, the food here has no soul. At best, its mediocre. At worst, just don 't come here in the first place. The food did not taste fresh and lacked flavor. For as long as we waited, you would expect the line to be out the door but it wasn 't. Seriously, waste of time and money."

"Overall, the Ritz Carlton and this restaurant seem like a shadow of their former selves, giving off the impression that they are trying too hard to be something they are not. The service was painfully slow; we waited nearly 30 minutes for our drinks and after 50 minutes, our appetizers still hadn't arrived. The server provided reasons and excuses but didn’t offer any apologies, and things didn’t improve even after we raised our concerns. I ordered the Cobia from the Miami Spice menu, which is supposed to be a regional prix fixe option, but the portion was quite small. My brother ordered the Sea Bass from the regular menu and received a serving that was easily four times the size, despite Sea Bass being a pricey item. This leads me to suspect that the prix fixe meals are intentionally smaller, as evidenced by the tiny sliver of Key Lime Tart that was included as the dessert. My wife had the prix fixe pasta, which was a decent size, but that’s to be expected with pasta. And let's talk about the prices: cocktails start at $17 and a glass of wine is $14! On top of that, they automatically added an 18% gratuity to our bill without mentioning it, even though we were just a party of three. The total for dinner, with two of us opting for the prix fixe menu, and sharing three cocktails and one glass of wine came to a staggering $270! What a disappointment!"

"ABSOLUTELY THE WORST RESTAURANT IN JACKSONVILLE!!!!!!!!!!!! SANITATION GRADE 86 I don’t usually leave reviews unless they are good ones but after seeing the review made by a Selina Masale from the same night my family and I were there I have to leave this one star review. The response to Selina’s review was quite obvious it was meant for my party not hers but I thought it interesting that they too had such a similar experience as we did. This will be a lengthy review as we had a very lengthy experience. We arrived at 7 and were seated at 7:40ish, I say seated but the manager told us our tables were ready and pointed us to the back door to go seat ourselves… we placed our order and waited. The server did the bare minimum for us, we waited 30 minutes for refills on our drinks, never checked on us or asked if we needed anything. Ignored us more than anything. At that point we should have left but we had 3 small children who were very hungry and just wanted to get our food so we could eat and get the kids home to bed. When we finally got our food after 9:00(over an hour after placing the order everything was cold. We were also sitting outside in the dark with ZERO lighting having to use our phones flash lights to see the food. Again we should have just left but we were starving at this point and just ate what they served us. The last straw was the server bringing us our bills which she got wrong then telling me mine was going to be charged more and snatching it away from me. I asked to speak to the manager (what a joke . She was full of excuses and attitude telling me it was my fault for coming there to eat. No sincere apologies just rude remarks. She did give us a whopping 25% off of our tickets only after telling us we were warned that they were short staffed. Being short staffed wasn’t the problem, the treatment was the problem. If you don’t have the staff to serve X amount of people then tell them we can’t accommodate your party tonight and we would have gone elsewhere. But they decided to serve us attitude all night instead. From the moment we walked in the door we didn’t feel welcomed but decided to stay being we had family from PA in town who wanted a outdoor dining experience by the water(as we all know this is the only place in Jacksonville that has that The only thing this place has going for it is the view of the river, everything else looks like something from an apocalyptic movie. The building is falling apart, the weeds are overgrown, just gross. We’ve come here a hand full of times over the years and each time we come it’s worse. We will not be returning and will never recommend this place to anyone again, which they will state they are happy about instead of apologizing for their lack of knowing how to run a decent restaurant(as the manager so blatantly said in her response to Selina’s review “I’m glad you feel you would not come back, I don’t think we would like to have you again” any response to my review I sure will be full of attitude and only blaming us for coming rather than taking accountability for the actions of the employees. Terrible management, terrible service, terrible all around. If this isn’t enough to keep you from trying this place out, their sanitation grade is in the 80’s which I didn’t know this until my daughter pointed it out when we were leaving or that would have been enough for me NOT to stay and have to experience what we did. NEVER AGAIN!"

"The atmosphere is casual, and I expected a quick turnaround with such food, but I opted for takeout. The young woman at the front counter was friendly and helpful; she pointed me to the online menu and processed my order right away. The food was ready in about seven or eight minutes, which was impressive. I ordered the pulled pork for $13, a small serving of mac and cheese for around $8 or $9, and a piece of cornbread for $1.50. The pulled pork was excellent—tender, juicy, and flavorful. In my experience with pulled pork, it's common to encounter some charred edges that can be a bit off-putting, but here, everything was well-balanced. The mac and cheese was good, reminiscent of Ikea's version, which I mean as a compliment, although it fell short of being great. It was a tiny bit dry, and I wasn't thrilled that it didn’t come as a smaller, cheaper side option. I distinctly remember enjoying it as a side for just a few extra dollars before COVID, so I took the leap and ordered a larger portion, though I’m not sure I would do it again. The cornbread was just okay, and that was a bit disappointing. I recall being impressed by the sweet moistness of the cornbread in the past, but this time it was dry and lacked flavor, which can often be the case with cornbread. I’m willing to concede that some flavors and moisture may have been lost in transit, so I’ll reserve my final judgment until I can dine in. While the prices might seem a bit high at first glance, I believe it's reasonable for BBQ, considering the preparation involved. This restaurant is a solid choice in an area that doesn’t have many BBQ options, and you can't go wrong with the decor, which pays homage to Sir Mix-a-Lot, as seen in the attached photo."
