"My wife and I dined here this Saturday evening. We were pleased that we got to sit near the windows for a lovely sunset view, but that was about it. First of all, the entire area is so cramped that we felt like we were a part of the conversations of the three tables surrounding us. We also had a major issue with service. Simone was our waiter. Our first interaction was him coming around with the bread platter. He looked at my wife and myself and said, “you look like you never turn down bread!” Admittedly, we aren’t small people, but we have never had it verbally called out at a meal, and it was a very awkward moment for Simone when he realized we understood what he was saying. We ordered a round of cocktails and our starters. Never once were we told about the lobster specials, which is a shame. We love lobster and would have happily ordered it if we had known. Simone pressured us to put in our entree order immediately. We felt as if we were being pushed out. Maybe it’s because we like to frequent the Black Pearl when we visit Dunedin, but I was not impressed. Our first round of drinks was lovely, but when my wife ordered a second white linen cocktail, what was brought to her was something full of sweet and sour mix. Holding my glass up to hers, mine was clear and hers was yellow. We were able to get a replacement, but it was still subpar. Our starters were pretty good- the escargot and onion soup. We were rushed through those for our entree, and when those came we weren’t impressed. When Simone came to check on us and asked how it was my wife said “It’s…” and before she could finish he responded with, “excellent!” And walked away. At this point it was obvious we were just trying to be pushed out the door. We were rushed and when asked, totally steamrolled. At the point of finishing our meals my wife suggested our typical bottle of port to share over a desert. I was done. We asked for our check and we’re given some electric device where we paid and tipped."

"Had dinner at 1852 Grill Room last night. First off, the food and service were excellent. We had mussels (incorrectly called Prince Edward Island and the sole meuniere with risotto and Brussel sprouts. The parm risotto was some of the best I have ever had. For desert, the fudge Sunday. Service was prompt and efficient. Lovely atmosphere overlooking the harbor. However: It seems no one on staff had any knowledge of the wine list, so we ordered blind. Fortunately it worked out. The mussels, listed as “PEI” were actually green lipped mussels. PEI are a different species of black mussels. Not a bad thing, because green lipped mussels have a milder flavor and aren’t as briny as PEIs. They were delicious. I actually prefer them, just misrepresented on the menu. They also list a “Scottish” salmon, described as “Pharoh island filet”. The Faroe Islands is an Island nation territory of Denmark between Iceland and Norway. World renowned for its Salmon farming. They produce an especially rich and flavorful Atlantic Salmon, not even similar to Scottish. In my opinion, one of the best in the world. Although due to its strong flavor, not commonly served in restaurants. One final note: Check the fine print at the bottom of the menu. They charge an additional 3.4% convenience fee on the bill. Just be aware that the food prices are actually higher that listed on the menu. Have your own opinion, but I find this particularly offensive"

"I had previously reviews this when it was Dan Diegos. I drive by it regularly and saw the name change to The Pub and kept telling my husband we needed to go to see what if any changes had been made. We came by on a Saturday, in the early evening. We sat on the patio and saw the QR codes to get the menu but when looking at the menu thought that surely there was more? I saw menus at the hostess stand and grabbed a few. Sadly there was just not the selection there once had been. I ended up getting my old standby fish and chips and my husband got the same but with shrimp (shrimp were breaded and fried . Kidlet got chicken nuggets with fries. The nuggets came with ranch (is this a thing people dipping nuggets in ranch?! . I asked for bbq and was given some which my kid proclaimed the best bbq sauce ever. Come to find out it is her favorite bbq sauce Sweet Baby Ray 's. Was disappointed when I looked at the itemized receipt a week later to see we were charged .25 for bbq. It is a quarter but I would have appreciated knowing it was an up charge. Or why couldn 't the server have asked it comes with ranch for dipping is that ok? I would have said no requested bbq sauce and saved some money and ranch that no one ate. My favorite adult beverage the craic punch was gone (insert sobs here so I had a rose. Husband had stromalo cider. We used to get the bread pudding with whiskey sauce but after seeing all the changes we decided to leave. Total $61.15 (cider $7.50, fish and chips $18 x 2, kids meal $5, rose $8, bbq .25 . While I can 't say I will never be back, I can say that it won 't be the go to place it had been for us for years and I will have my memories of Dan Diego 's and all the family and friends we brought there."
