"I've been to Preston's on a number of occasions -- a couple of lunches, and quite a few happy hours.I have to say I am not too impressed with their express lunches. The price-to-quality ratio is not the greatest -- what I usually expect from a chain -- but the service is quick, so I really can't complain too much. That said, it has been at least 2 years since my last lunch visit so that pretty much sums up what I think of their lunch offerings. The dinner menu does not excite me, and seems a tad on the expensive side, so I have not even bothered with it.What keeps me coming back, though, is their happy hour. Drinks are fairly priced ($3 highballs, $4 red or white plonk, $5 beer, $6 cocktails), and the pours are not bad. 50% off select food items present a good deal, though there aren't too many things from their HH selection that appeal much to me. The calamari (not the standard rings - more flat and breadcrumby) is usually good -- the squid is tender, but can be a bit greasy at times. Chicken wings are mediocre. Avocado fritters, salads, and cheeseburger spring rolls appeal to a few of my friends, but I find them boring, bland, and pointless. The clam chowder has good flavour, but can sit a bit heavy in the gut. The Creole mussels and clams are good and flavourful (the broth has a good kick). My absolute fave is the crispy pickled cauliflower with turmeric and carrot puree -- the sourness from the pickling and the sweetness from the carrots work really well together. Appies range in price from $6-$10 during HH so the value proposition is good even if the menu is not super exciting. I would probably not be willing to pay full price for these though. Service has been very good (friendly, efficient, and unpretentious) for the most part. This is one of the better HH deals this side of Coal Harbour. A really good place for a few drinks and nibbles after work with friends. Solid 3.5 stars rounded up to a 4."

"We have visited the Beachside Restaurant many times over the years. Since the Pandemic we had not been there for 2 years. The last time before this visit I had delicious Huevos Rancheros. But now it seem they have radically redone their menu. If you want traditional brunch fare, this is not the place for you. No eggs with bacon, sausage, ham, hash browns, etc. Only eggs with Pork Chops and/or steak, also a Breakfast Sando with roasted pork belly, pumpkin seed and kale pesto, sliced tomato, arugula, honey mustard, pretzel croissant Breakfast Tacos not on New Year's Day menu Frangelico Custard French Toast Fried Chicken crispy fried tenders, fresh berries, cinnamon butter, vanilla maple syrup Beachside Scramble applewood smoked bacon, tomato, avocado, cheddar jack cheese, basil, country potatoes Protein Scamble misspelled egg whites, spinach, shiitake mushrooms, grilled chicken breast, avocado, quinoa salad Also Roasted Broccoli Ceaser misspelled romaine lettuce, parmesan, brioche croutons, anchovy dressing Stone Fruit Prosciutto Salad seasonal market stone fruit, greek feta, mint, arugula, peanut salsa macha dressing Shrimp Ceviche coconut lime leche de tigre, octopus, aji Amarillo sauce, totopos gf? Mexican Shrimp and Grits Jamaican jerk rubbed, hominy grits, mango mojo, peanut salsa macha Salmon Achiote Achiote lime rubbed, quinoa salad, grilled corn and zucchini, mango chutney, pickled onion No omelettes, no Eggs Benedict they had no English muffins! just a lot of very complicated, upscale food. The entire menu was so disappointing I ordered a burger which was very good but not what I wanted for brunch I won't be going back unless they restore good old fashioned brunch food to their brunch menu!"

"We go to Oceans all the time and really like it. However this time it was very different. Firstly the prices seem to have gone up on the sushi. We normally got two small sushi for $4. We were ordering 5 portions and also a calamari for the table. The waiter said that we only got 1 piece of sushi for $4, we said that was odd as we came here all the time and we alway got 2. We asked him to just cut them in half and he made a huge deal of it, went to ask the chef, came back and said they would do it this time but they didn't normally etc. etc. It was obviously a big problem. Then when we got the bill we were charged for more than we got. We pointed this out and they fixed it. Also when it came to time to pay it was very difficult to find him and it all took a long time! They seem to have tweaked some items on the menu and not for the better! The calamari was smothered in a sickly barbecue sauce which was extremely odd, and my daughter whose birthday it was couldn't eat it. Then her favorite dish, the chicken milanese was covered in a sauce, which is a new addition, and was not at all nice. She has had this dish I'd say six times before and it was never topped with that sauce. On the plus side it was her 16th birthday and they brought her desert with a sparkler which I thought was a very nice touch. We love oceans, of course will go back again but were disappointed I have to say. First every bad review of this restaurant!"
