"The ambiance was good overall. It was something different, so I’d say the ambiance made up for the lackluster food. Thus, once the novelty wears off, I am not sure if I would go back for a full meal. I would probably go back- if I ever- it would be with a big group to enjoy a couple of beers with small plates during the Happy Hour. The small plates are fun to try and affordable. However, the biggest disappointment was a main dish, poke bowl. I have eaten a great number of poke bowls from a variety of places including some European countries, but I never had poke bowl with such undercooked rice. I am an Asian who makes rice everyday and knows what is good rice or not. I am normally ok with most sushi rices as long as it is cooked right. It was so undercooked that It hurt my teeth to chew. My husband who eats anything without much complaint agreed that it was hard to chew. Therefore, we both picked at only the fish pieces and left the rice. The fish was pretty good. All the ingredients in the bowl were great. However, the flavor was too subtle and overall too dry, I had to ask a bit more ponzu and sesame oil. Overall, we enjoyed our night out but I don’t think we will go back there for a poke bowl. We will continue to go to poke bros for a cheaper version of it- although the amount pole bros serves is less, it is perfect amount for me. But Drinking sake in a wooden box was a fun experience!"

"I’m truly disappointed to share this review, but my experience reflects how poorly this restaurant treats its guests. We had five unfortunate encounters in just one night. My friends and I arrived hoping to enjoy a meal together. Here’s what happened: 1. We requested a table for nine at the reception. The staff initially checked and said it was fine, but then he stumbled and started acting strangely after speaking to someone else. His response: He asked for our IDs to confirm our ages. A few of us had them, but we were not planning to drink alcohol anyway. Then, he informed us that without IDs, there was no table available. 2. We asked if we could at least get some water. His response: "Sorry, we cannot serve you anything." 3. We inquired about placing a takeout order. He replied: "I'm sorry, but you can't be in the restaurant without IDs. You’ll need to order from outside, which is all we can do for you." 4. The worst part came when we decided to wait for our cab under their covered outdoor seating area, as it was raining. The staff came outside and told us: "We cannot allow you to be here. You need to move outside." 5. We explained that it was raining and we just needed a bit of cover while we waited. Their response was: "Yes, but you can wait on the curbside." I have never felt so insulted in my life. It was disheartening to see such disregard for customers from a place like Tavern. I truly hope they reevaluate their approach to hospitality."

"We have been coming to this restaurant for several years. In fact, we remember when it was called Home and had different owners. Lately we have noticed a significant change in quality of service for the worse. Today we stopped in for brunch. Immediately the hostess asked us if we had reservations. While looking around the almost empty outdoor seating area, we admitted we did not have a reservation. The host then began to seat us at a table inside the restaurant. My significant other and I preferred to sit outside, so we politely asked if we could sit in one of the many empty tables or booths outside. The hostess quickly replied we have SEVERAL RESERVATIONS, so unfortunately, no . My boyfriend and I politely pointed out over half of their outdoor tables were vacant. The hostess replied and said she would have to check with the manager . She came back a few minutes later and agreed to let us sit outside but only at a small table or small booth to make sure all of their large reservations could be accommodated. We happily thanked the hostess and sat down. After a few minutes our waitress came around and took our order. The food was pretty good; which it always has been. However, the waitress seemed to be deliberately ignoring us throughout our meal. She was more than happy to help the table next to us on several occasions and only came over to our table when we flagged her down with much effort. At one point I literally had to get up, and track her down inside the restaurant to ask for more iced tea and salt and pepper (which was not on any table). To top it all off- literally NO ONE came into the restaurant during the entire time we were dining. We were specifically told we could not sit outside because of SEVERAL LARGE RESERVATIONS that were coming soon . Seems weird that the entire hour we were dining, no one came in at all. Did all those large reservations cancel? As we were getting up to leave, another couple walked in and were immediately seated (without question) at an outdoor booth. Was this the large reservation they were so concerned about seating? Seems odd since there was plenty of room for an additional couple in the outdoor area while we were dining. Makes me wonder why Ivanhoe treated us so differently when we asked to be seated outside.I 'm not sure if the bad service we received today was because we had the audacity to ask to be sat outside on a beautiful day, or if it was something else. However, the whole reservations game is kinda obnoxious and pretentious when the customer is literally staring at a half empty restaurant. Either way, Ivanhoe can rest assured, we will not be returning. This will leave them plenty of room for all of their large reservations they seem to have coming in."
