"Our server had quite the personality, but the rest of the staff seemed very young and unfamiliar with proper conversation volume—what I’d call an “inside voice.” The food arrived quickly but was missing some key ingredients. To be honest, it just wasn’t very good. The ceviche was overloaded with vegetables and contained only chopped shrimp, lacking the avocado it promised, which was a big letdown. My partner tried the chicken soup and had no major complaints about it, though.
I ordered the churrasco, which came with black beans, yellow rice, three pieces of sweet fried plantains, and yucca frita. While the chimichurri sauce was tasty and the yellow rice was cooked and seasoned perfectly, the rest was underwhelming. The steak was overcooked and not a particularly generous portion. In contrast, they certainly piled on the seasoning, and I wish the amount of steak matched the bold flavor they were aiming for.
Throughout the restaurant, there were photos of tourists posing at the 90 miles to Cuba marker, and even a little decorative replica near the register. Take note of those images and that replica; it might be a good reminder that 90 miles is likely closer to the real Cuban culinary experience than what we encountered here."
