"If you're looking for pure comfort food and a family owned and operated business, look no more. Melanies welcomed hubby and I with open arms and made us feel right at home for our first time trying West Indian food. We started with the potato balls and some shrimp... So much flavor. The potato balls came with a mango chutney or dip that was so delicious and paired perfectly. The chicken curry had so much flavor and truly was a comfort meal. Along with the mixed rice which came with a mix of shrimp, pork, and I believe steak. The portions were so generous and the drinks were strong but in a good way. There was a live DJ as we were dining which totally set a great vibe for a date night. This is definitely a must try and I can't wait to come back for more."

"I went to the store today and was very impressed. The store manager, Mr. Pandya, was extremely polite, friendly, patient, and a good listener. He even gave me a thorough tour of the store, showing me everything in each aisle. This Indian grocery store is a fantastic addition to the neighborhood, with a great selection of items that I need. The produce is fresh, the frozen section is well-stocked, and the store is clean. I highly recommend this store and will be visiting frequently instead of driving long distances or ordering online for my essentials."

"We arrived at JFK from Spain, and after the long flight we were craving roti. Going by reviews, we drove to Trinciti Roti Shop only to find out they are closed on Monday’s. So, next up, Singh’s Roti Shop, and glad we found this place! We bought $60 worth of lamb and vegetarian roti, as well as several doubles and currant rolls. Everything was delicious, and the roti’s are huge! You can choose what sides to add to the roti, and everything appeared freshly made. And we arrived at the right time because the line after us was 12 strong! This place is popular and for good reason; among the best roti we have had in NYC… 5 stars all the way!"

"Food is really good but I had to lower the ratings. Today I visited to get my favorite bake and salt fish and saw a worker handling food without a mask on and no gloves. I was thankful she didn’t take my order. If she would’ve came to me I’d told her to put a mask on and gloves. That’s so disgusting she was talking over the food that we have to eat. She was skinny with glasses on. Vaccinated or not you need to mask up. We are still in a pandemic. I don’t appreciate this arrogant attitude of just cause you’re vaccinated you don’t need a mask. You’re dealing with food put a damn mask on. And they also let customers in without a mask; second time I’m seeing this. Therefore, I’m done no more getting food from this risky place."

"I had a hankering for Oxtails after running errands all day, so of course I I turned to Yelp to find the best places near by. I stumbled upon Taste of the Islands . It was on a Saturday afternoon so upon entering they were very busy and the line was quite long. One side seemed to have been a sit down restaurant but perhaps closed down due to COVID. It was my first time here so I wasn 't sure exactly all of the items that I wanted to order, I felt a bit rushed...don 't come here if you are looking for customer service lol I decided upon the Oxtails with rice and peas and a side of Plantains. Stewed Oxtail $18.99/marinated oxtail slow cooked in seasoned stew sauce and 1 vegetable and rice and peas, I ordered the Spinach to go with it. Everything was very tasty but seemed a bit pricey? Or is this the average? The oxtails were fall off the bone tender and the rice and peas were flavorful. The plantains had just the right amount of sweetness!"

"I have ordered curried chicken roti from this restaurant twice now, and both times I have been let down. The portion size was small, with only 4 small pieces of chicken in a bowl that seemed to be sitting in oily, dirty water. The curry flavor was barely there, making the chicken taste bland. I also ordered Dahl puri to go with it, but was disappointed to find that the roti was dry and there was only a small amount of split pea filling. I ate it because I had already paid for it and was hungry, but I will not be ordering from this restaurant again."

"I was really disappointed with the portion of the curry goat. It's hard to understand why anyone would pay almost $16 for a goat roti when the roti itself had a spoiled odor. The bowl was tiny and mostly filled with bones, with very little meat. There were no other accompaniments either. The only redeeming aspect of the meal was the chicken fried rice; unfortunately, the curry just didn’t justify the price."

"If you're going to serve Caribbean food, you really need to have a Caribbean chef. It’s important to include vegetables in your meals; simply serving meat on rice isn't enough. Additionally, curry dishes require a starch to help thicken the sauce—adding some potatoes would be a great idea. The curry chicken I had was swimming in curry water, and there were no onions, peppers, or even carrots to enhance the flavor. Overall, it was definitely not worth the price! I think I'll be making the trip to Richmond Hill for some authentic home cooking instead."

"I had a fantastic experience at this restaurant! The food was delicious. My group ordered the jerk chicken, brown stew chicken, and curry chicken, as well as plantains. Everyone was delighted with their meals, with the sounds of enjoyment frequently heard throughout our meal. We also tried the chicken curry patties, which were incredibly tasty and now have me craving another one. The prices were fair, the hot sauce was excellent, and the food was served by friendly and attentive staff. I will definitely be returning to this restaurant in the future."

"Goat Doubles was fantastic! I was pleasantly surprised by the generous amount of goat in my dish. The level of spice was spot on. I just wish I had enjoyed it while it was still piping hot. The plain double was also excellent. The Mauby brought back fond memories from my childhood. Great job overall! My only minor complaint is that the prices are a bit on the high side. I would definitely recommend it!"

"To be honest this used to be my go to spot for rotis but they service got so poor. I had a few hiccups with them. First incident is when I bought a beef roti, when I got in the car I kept smelling this scent but I didn’t pay no attention to it but when I got home and I opened it up my kids asked me what that scent was I was like wow that’s the scent I been smelling. The roti was soooo offff. I took it back to the store and upon returning it I told the girl at the front the roti smells so she called the person In charge from the back the lady then began to tell me oh she can’t smell anything she don’t know what I talking about etc. she was so rude then she asked the girl to the front to smell it, when she smelled it she looked at me and softly told the lady it does smell and that I was right. The lady that was in charge looked at her so nasty. I asked for my money back she told the girl to give me and walked off grumbling. Btw this was only one of my bad experiences I would leave the story about the German roaches and the hair for another time."

"They just recently turned this spot into a full restuarant it was mostly known as a Guyanese hangout but the Pandemic made all that not possible anymore I must say I been really impressed by there service, food there different healthy side order veggies everyday they have on display also the spot is clean they provide tables chairs if you wanna take a quick bite I hope they maintain the vibes after the Pandemic is over.."
