"Overall, I was always impressed by Paper Doll. We have always enjoyed the entire atmosphere of the place and drinks they have to offer. About a month ago some friends and I booked places for the dollhouse at Paper Doll. We had been looking forward to it for months and I even had people from the city. When we arrived, the host told us that the dollhouse was not open at the moment. This was surprising because we had received notifications about our reservations for some time. He told us that they were low on the staff, what we understood completley, and that they would not be able to eat us back there. I told him that I totally understand that they were short employees, and we wouldn't complain yet expect ordinary service, but really wanted in Dollhouse because of 1) our big group size, and 2) the fact that we celebrated birthdays. He was very friendly, but not knocking, but was very helpful to make sure we sit in regular seats on Paper Doll. It ended all right, and we did all push and fit on the stands, but it was still not what we had expected. The next time it would be great to know before the time whether the place we book is not open because we would have gone 100% to another bar if we knew it in advance. The host was helpful and tried, but it was still frustrating that we came about 20 guests and no idea that the room should be closed. They also suggested that we have booked it on a separate website, but on OpenTable it was not clear that you had to do this with large groups. Beverages were great and the staff was friendly and helpful, just write this review to help anyone who can do the same in the future."

"We arrived around 3 PM, right between lunch and dinner, and the place was quite empty. The host seated us on the patio, which is great for people-watching if that's your thing. After about 15 minutes, our server, Samuel, finally made it to our table. I suspect he took so long because he was busy helping Motley Crue unload their gear next door. He had long, greasy hair that was all over the place and a dirty sleeveless t-shirt with the sleeves cut off. Both of these are health code violations—great job by management, as we enjoyed the view of his bare chest through the gaping armholes. And that was just the start of our disappointing service. It took another 15 minutes for our drinks to arrive. We were a party of six, and guess what? He brought us only three straws. After an excruciating 40 minutes waiting for our food, we noticed a four-top next to us sit down and leave after 15 minutes because no one attended to them. Eventually, our food arrives, but Samuel forgets to bring any silverware or napkins. We asked for both, plus some ketchup, and he returned with just three napkins and four forks for six people. After waiting another 5-6 minutes for him to come back with more, I finally took matters into my own hands and went inside to ask the bartender. She was too preoccupied having a rant session with two other servers to notice me. Once they dispersed, I asked her for additional silverware and napkins, but she told me she didn't have enough. Then, she went back to attending to her one and only customer at the bar. I ended up grabbing a handful of cocktail napkins and returned to the table to eat my food. The food was decent, but the service? Not so much. When we left, I tried to talk to the host to see if there was a manager on duty, but she just stared at me and then answered a phone call. Overall, it was a pretty terrible experience. I can't imagine what went wrong behind the scenes, but wow. It'll be a while before we come back."

"This review is in regards to the bar area, not the restaurant area. Never eaten there so I can’t attest to that part. I had heard mixed reviews about Baja Bean in Staunton and have been to lovely chains in other cities. I flew into town to visit my family and my mom, siblings and I went to grab a drink to end the night. My mid-50s mother was denied entry at the door for forgetting her ID (understandable I guess; she went back and got it) and we sat at a table and ordered one drink each. Service was decent, drinks were good. My brother ordered a second drink and finished it and we went to go cash out. I paid for one of his double whisky sours and my sister paid for his second double whisky sour. Nothing out of the ordinary. Here’s the strange part:We go to cash out our tickets and notice that they seem off. We asked for our itemized receipts, corrected the charges with a pen, and the bartender returned with our updated totals. When we got our updated totals, we were charged two completely different prices for the exact same double whisky sour. When we asked for the tickets to be corrected again, the bartender told us we were drunk and it was the same number (we both had ONE drink). I circled the whisky sours on both tickets where it clearly says one cost $16 and one cost $19.50. The bartender refused to look into the discrepancy and replied with “stiff me if you want to, I don’t care!” Ma’am, we’re simply trying to figure out why the same drink costs two different prices, but ok yeah sure. We walk out without tipping because we were already overcharged and at that point she was just being nasty. As we’re calmly walking out of the bar trying to figure out what the heck just happened, another bartender comes running out behind us saying “they’re banned for life! all of them!” Umm yeah ok, half of us don’t even live here and the other half definitely won’t be returning at this point anyway. It was the weirdest bar experience of my life.If you’re confused by this, so are we. If you choose to drink here, make sure to check the itemized receipt before paying. Also watch your bank account because my sister ended up with a random $39 pending charge she had to dispute in addition to her actual bill.tldr; my family of four went in for one drink and ended up getting overcharged and banned for life over a bill they refused to correct."
