"Being from the East Coast, finding top quality fresh fish and shell fish is a challenge in Reno. We heard about Smee's from a friend and after reading the mixed reviews decided to give it a try. Disappointing at best is our conclusion. The view is great being next to Smith and River in the 50 North Sierra Stret Building. Service was not unacceptable but on the slow side. We asked if clams were available and were told yes but that the preparation could not be altered. Cream sauce on claims sauteed in white wine, and butter? We asked if the cream could be left off, but no, the Seinfeld chef could only do it the way the menu said. We opted for the calamari basket. It came in a bowl not a basket, heavily breaded indicating to us that it was frozen commercial and not fresh or house made. It was accompanied by the smallest ramekin of bland red sauce I have ever seen. When we asked for more sauce, there was a real hesitancy to provide it. Main dishes were halibut and trout. The halibut cam raw on the inside covered in the cream sauce that probably was ment for the clams but was replaced without issue altho there was hesitancy on leaving the cream sauce off. The trout was pan fried and moist and flaky-the highlight of the meal. Each of the plates came with the same spinach leaves, canned tangerine sections and a few cut up strawberry pieces, tho on the good side ou do get a choice of fries or bland rice. This is just a guess on my part but I do not think this is a restaurant with professional chefs but rather employees who follow a rote schedule of preparation and list of ingredients-no originality or creativity evidenced.."
