"On a Friday around 5 PM, my mom and her friend ordered three fish fry meals for takeout. Although I wasn't with them during the pickup, they shared that the experience was quite smooth, despite the bustling atmosphere. They didn't have to wait long to pay and get their meals—there wasn't an empty table in sight!
Now, about the fish fry itself: it featured a massive beer-battered haddock, served with a cup of tartar sauce and a lemon wedge to squeeze. There were also tons of fries, a small cup of coleslaw, a little cup of cheesy macaroni salad, and a dinner roll with butter. I was genuinely amazed at the amount of food I received, and the large takeout box hinted at the generous portions.
The fish was perfectly fried—not greasy at all—and it was easy to cut with a fork. It didn't have an overly fishy taste, likely because haddock is milder than some other varieties. The coleslaw was excellent, with the right moisture level and a subtle tanginess that wasn't overpowering. I was pleasantly surprised by the macaroni salad's cheesy flavor, which I didn't expect but was very welcome. The fries were also very good.
However, by the time we sat down to eat, about 40 minutes later, the fries had cooled off and were cold by the time I finally dug in. This wasn’t the fault of the restaurant, though. As I mentioned earlier, the size of the fish fry and the number of sides were very generous. We all left feeling plenty full and satisfied. I managed to finish my meal, but my mom and her friend couldn't.
I'm really glad I finally tried food from The Alabama Hotel! The takeout experience was smooth, and both the food quality and portion sizes were fantastic. I’d love to dine in and enjoy a meal there sometime, so maybe 2022 will be the year for that!"
