"What made it even stranger was that we were only asking simple questions, taking our time, and being polite. In response, she raised her voice and spoke in a demeaning manner, as if we were being demanding. When we inquired about sitting at the bar if a couple moved over a stool to accommodate us, she loudly expressed her concern, saying they were "a little OLD" and that she felt bad asking them to move—a completely unnecessary and ageist comment to make in front of us. (By the way, they moved without any issue.)
After that awkward encounter, she returned and said, "Okay, come on, I asked them to move, let’s go!" She seated us and then turned to my friend with a overly cheerful tone, asking if we had been there before, as if she were trying to make up for her earlier rudeness.
We ended up only ordering one round at the bar and left after about 10-15 minutes because we felt uncomfortable. The bartender was also quite curt with us. We decided we didn’t want to continue giving Semolina our money, so we wrapped things up instead of staying for dinner as we had planned. Overall, it was a huge disappointment. I was really looking forward to dining at this neighborhood spot, but the way we were treated has left me hesitant to ever return. It was just an unfriendly and disappointing experience."
