"You CAN get fresh seafood in the off-season! On a recent March business trip “downey oshun,” we found so many places closed for the off-season that we despaired of finding fresh, local seafood. Thank goodness for Higgins Crab House (South ! Our Saturday night foray yielded not only a perfectly steamed crab (sold individually! for my 12-yr-old, but also a fantastic raw bar with fresh Dorchester County oysters. The blackened rockfish was very good, the corn on the cob was dessert-like, and the Maryland crab soup is extraordinary. The soup was not the usual “vegetable soup with crab” often foisted upon tourists: full of crab meat, it had a smokey goodness somewhere between a stew and a gumbo. Brilliant. The service was quite good, especially since the place was emptying out as we arrived, and some servers were clocking out. Our server, Erica, was knowledgeable and smart enough to ask the kitchen about gluten-free choices. All in all, a top experience, easily fulfilling our need to gorge ourselves on seafood at the O.C. We’ll be back."
