"Towards the end of the menu at Ethiopian Diamond, there is a whole page of vegetarian selections. They are all vegan! One can choose any of these entrees, a combination, or a Taste of Ethiopia for one or two people. To start, I love to get the veggie combo sambusa. If you've never had sambusa, they are basically like a flat, triangular samosa. The veggie combo includes the lentil, spinach, and the potato and carrot sambusa's. For entree's, I usually go with a friend and get two orders of the veggie combo. It is cheaper than getting the Taste of Ethiopia for two people. We get six of the seven options to choose from on the combo. The options we usually get are the yemisir watt (spicy red lentils), kik alicha (split peas in sauce), gomen (collard greens), tikel gomen (cabbage and carrots), yatkilt watt (string beans, carrots, and potatoes in sauce), and dinich alicha (potatoes and carrots in sauce). The seventh option is quosta (spinach). This whole dinner comes on a large platter a top of injera bread with a salad in the middle. I love the salad dressing at Ethiopian Diamond! They also bring extra bread to eat the dishes. My favorite is the gomen. I really love greens, though. My friend's favorite is the yemisir watt, but he loves spicy foods. There is also a special dish on the vegetarian menu which I have never tried. It is the shimbra assa. It is chick pea dough that is formed to look like fish watt (stew). There is also the tofu tibs which is grilled tofu with vegetables in a sauce. I'm usually way too full for dessert, but I believe all the desserts have honey in them. On Friday's and Saturdays, there is usually a live band playing Ethiopian music at the Broadway location. There is another location on Clark St. near the Howard Red Line stop (Ethiopian Diamond II). I give Ethiopian Diamond a stars. They loose half a star because it can be really busy sometimes and the wait staff suffers in service. If you get the chance to try Ethiopian food, I strongly recommend it! It is one of my favorite types of food, for sure. For a complete review, please see my blog here: http"

"We visited Maaza29 and even though their expansion construction project is going on, the food was fantastic! I really like the offerings, the menu is robust enough to satisfy many palettes yet focused enough that the offerings were all very good to excellent. The menu just changed so I hope they update their online PDF, some things aren't available and the one super entree I had isn't on the website. You will note the site says Ethiopian Inspired. That's because the owner/chef's parents are Ethiopian and Italian, which makes for a wonderful dining experience! We started with the Sambusa, and a nice surprise was that we could mix/match two of the types (three are offered . Our choices included the Lentil and the Beef. We preferred the beef as it has the right flavor strength to stand up to being deep fried, the lentil was tasty however the deep fry process didn't quite match to lentils. Next time I want to try the Mesir as I do like lentils. : Next was the entree serving, I had a new veal offering in a tomato based sauce which was tender and extremely flavorful. The sauce wasn't a typical tomato based one, the spice mixture made it a smooth yet full flavored accompaniment to the veal. My wife's beef entree was done to perfection as well, and the injera was a great balance with the meal. It all worked together well. For dessert we had choices that were from Italy, and we enjoyed a nice pistachio parfait and an amaretto based dessert that were great, I'd pace myself next time to ensure plenty of room for these tasty treats! The wine list was focused yet solid choices, so the evening or lunch will be a pleasant experience for sure. When the construction is done the Ambiance will score higher and the noise lower. Try it!"

"Another win for Harlem USA! We were intentional about supporting a black business for our Kwanzaa gathering and Abyssinia Ethiopian Restaurant exceeded our expectations! Our first time dining at this location and it was a wonderful experience especially since we were a large group celebrating Kwanzaa. The staff was very warm and friendly, accommodating of all our requests and always with a smile. We had an amazing time. The food was delicious, not too spicy, oily or salty and very reasonably priced. I had the Veggie Combo for one about $20+ bucks that comes with string beans, lentils, collard greens, chick peas, cabbage and split peas. You can swap out any one of those items and double up on others. For example I swapped out the collard greens and got two servings of chick peas instead all served with a side of Injera (Ethiopian bread like wrap) which also comes with a gluten free option. The avocado salad was pretty good except for the tangy dressing which I felt was an acquired taste. I’d have it just plain next time. Everything was absolutely deelish overall!Remember you’re eating with your hands to have the full experience!Wheelchair accessible and free street parking but plan ahead as per usual NYC life? Would definitely recommend and we’ll be back for sure. Thanks for the outstanding service. Vegetarian options: Veggie Combo delivers a win! Parking: Took a couple circles around the block but found street parking on Saturday night in Harlem!"
