"Barista was rude and needy.I walk towards the counter to orderHim: Hey, how are you doing today? (I didn’t hear him well, but I assume he was asking what I wanted to order)Me: Can I have an Americano please?Him: Hey, how are you doing today? (I didn’t hear him well again, but I assume he was asking for an order)Me: Can I have An Americano please?Him: Hey, how are you doing today? (I assume he has a hearing disability at this point, so I repeat)Me: Can I have an American please?Him: Hey, how are you doing today? (At this point, I realize he is fishing for a specific answer, like my state of mind or I’m doing fine, etc)Me: I’m doing ok.Him: What can I get you today?Me: Can I get an Americano please?Him: Anything else besides an Americano, because you already said that like five times? This is in downtown Manhattan near the World Trade Center. Everybody is busy and expecting a customer to tell a barista about his state of mind or about his day is none of his business. I just wanted to order and pay. Fishing for a response is too needy and unnecessary in New York City. Not everybody wants to have a whole conversation with their barista."
