"FOOD REVIEW ONLY: ordered the ranchero steak with an enchilada and orange soda. Although the orange soda was fine, the enchilada was edible but tasted more like Tex-Mex than AUTHENTIC Latino fare. Unfortunately, the steak had an off-putting smell and flavor. Additionally, the tortilla chips weren’t fresh and to add insult to injury, some of the chips had a paint-like taste while the salsa served with them was BLAND. For the past 17 years, El Amigo in Schererville, IN has consistently offered authentic delicious Mexican food, including their tampiqueña (steak and enchilada), tacos, chilaquiles, rice, and excellent fresh chips and coffee. In contrast, El Salto in Munster serves authentic and delicious mole enchiladas. I will not be returning to La Carreta in Schererville—yuck!"

"The raw oysters were outstanding, earning a solid five stars for their freshness and delicious flavor, with no broken shells in sight. We ordered a “baker's dozen,” and they were fantastic. However, the rest of the meal did not meet those high standards. The fried shrimp arrived at room temperature, were overcooked, and quite tough. The potato salad was perfect and a highlight of the meal. Unfortunately, the crab cake was lacking in seasoning and had an overpowering garlic flavor, plus it was only slightly warm. The sweet potato fries were also served at room temperature. We were seated outside, which didn’t help since the weather was cool. On a positive note, our server was attentive and did a great job. We debated sending the meal back but ultimately chose not to, as we didn’t want to wait for a replacement. Overall, it was a mixed experience."

"Expensive, bad food.My husband got the rib eye , which was full of gristle, thin, he described it as tasting like it had been boiled, and had a weird sweet flavor that didn 't make sense. I had the carbonara, which traditionally is made with egg yolks and cheese, not cream. The pasta I got was a cream sauce that lacked any depth or discernable flavor, which was certainly not a carbonara. The $10 house wine most certainly came from a box. The atmosphere was so strange, the vents and sub ceiling are all exposed, and the decor inside was a smattering of random tiny photos. Felt more like a warehouse than a nice restaurant. I don 't understand how this place gets away with charging $30 a plate for what amounts to cafeteria food. They clearly don 't seem too worried about making good quality food. They should charge less than half of their current prices so that the price matches what they provide.The bread was nice, the service was excellent, we got our food concerningly fast (was it just sitting around? ."

"We recently ordered quite a bit of food for our sons baptism party. My mother in law has ordered food before and it was delicious but this was no the case this time. We ordered a large ziti but were given a small. The sausage and peppers and the meatballs tasted like someone poured a whole container of salt in them. I was so embarrassed when guests thought I cooked it instead of having picked it up. I wrote a private message to the deli and didn't get a response. I don't think we will be getting food from here again for future events."

"The absolute best Lebanese place in Lafayette. Jamil and Matthew are phenomenal hosts and they care about providing authentic food and hospitality. "Normally this place is 5 stars. We have been here many times for the fish and chips. The chowder is great and so is the blade meat. This time I wanted to try the scallops. I have never ordered scallops in New England that came out in bits and pieces. I have only had whole scallops when ordering a fried scallop plate. If they are not going to give you whole scallops they should tell you. I will come back for fish and chips etc. but not for the chopped up scallops. Too bad because this place is top notch. "What I walked in it was a market in a gas station. The place is very small . Food is limited. The food they give you is limited. The lady's that's helping you she acts like she's doesn't want to be here or look at you. I felt very uncomfortable eating in this place. The girl that works here acts like she don't speak at all. At first I was disencouraged to eat here. But I did. Its nothing like NYC food. Food is okay. Maybe I got to look more Dominican. I love Dominican food. I drove almost hour and a half to get here because it says NYC. Very disappointing. I didn't get sick that's a plus. I miss New York 178 and Broadway. If You know you know!!! Lol"
