"Food: the portions were great, but the below average quality leaves you wondering how they can charge so much. The fish appears frozen and unthawed prior to frying. It consisted of four, square, nuggets of fish, a handful of fries for $17.99. The cup of chili screams mid bland, plain (no cheese, onions, hot sauce... nothing), $5.45 cup, room temperature. The black and bleu burger was really good, but chips are served with it and cannot be substituted. The nachos were six decent sized chips, cheese, tomatoes, and jalapenos with chili, sour cream, and salsa on the side. These were fairly good, but extremely anemic for a $14.99 appetizer. The cole slaw tasted more like fish than the actual fish. It was inedible. I believe the spotlight was on the turkey club that was actually very good, and portioned and priced fairly. Service: Umm... what service? We waited while the people that came in after us were served before we were even approached all after being seated. The silverware was dirty, and a menu had blood on it. The server was very friendly after she got to us. Atmosphere: this seems good, but when three people are having an $87 lunch that was worth $50, tops, it's very hard to enjoy the place you are sitting. The prices are on the menu, and I'm not upset about the money. I'm upset that I'm paying Texas Roadhouse prices for Taco Bell quality food. After tip, this was over $30 per person. This was one of my wife's favorite childhood restaurants, and she's complained since sitting down. I do not believe that we will return for a VERY long time. "This was a rough experience, and hard to explain. We were brought in and immediately sat for our reservation. It took about 15 minutes or so before we even got a someone who came to our table. Finally, a woman came to our table and took our order, and then did not see her for quite sometime. This is a small plates restaurant, so we ordered a number of appetizers and small plates as well as drinks. We started receiving food before we ever received a drink, which is kind of weird. We got both appetizers followed by our small plates, and still no drinks. None of which were delivered by our waitress, which isn’t necessary abnormal, but still we were getting food and not checked in on. Finally, we got our drinks and we finished our apps and small plates. When it was time for our final plates, mine was brought out during our appetizers and sat there for a while. My wife’s entree was not brought out until much later. The food was actually pretty good, and very nice presentation, but service was bad. Our waitress said they were understaffed and over booked. And this does make sense as most restaurants with a liquor license will push drinks as it is a huge revenue stream for them. And by our service, I would agree with her, but service was really bad. I also don’t want to say our server was bad, just inexperienced and again she seemed like she was doing more than just waitressing. Unfortunately, for the price and that service, I wouldn’t recommend. It’s sad, because it has potential. Also, they did not acknowledge my reservation in the system to open table."

"I would not recommend going to Fiola Mare during COVID or after. The first thing I was informed of is the time limit at the table of 1 hr 30 min, which I thought was completely tasteless. I was celebrating a birthday and brought a cake with me to share at the table. I was informed that I could not cut or eat my cake at the table because things from the outside are not allowed. I thought that policy was ludicrous because literally people bring jackets, purses, etc in the restaurant, which are technically from the outside. Nevertheless, we pressed on. Our waitress was fine, she did her job gracefully and was very funny. We all ordered the lobster ravioli, which was $55. The dish tasted great but I think we were all shocked when we received 2 ravioli and 2 pieces of lobster. It was so tiny that it was more like an hor d'oeurve than a dish. It is criminal to me that Fiola Mare thinks it is appropriate to charge that amount for 2 lobster ravioli and 2 small pieces of lobster. I have no problem paying that amount for quality food but that dish was severely overpriced. At that point I did not wish to press on and order anything else. With the time limit on the dinner, I think we were all ready to go at that point. We all left HUNGRY and underwhelmed. It completely put a damper on my birthday celebration. For that, I will not return and would caution any one else to do the same."

"We were there today 3/8/17 for lunch. 3 people for a business lunch among friends. The location is easy to get to if you are in stamford already. It is walking distance from many of the office buildings in town and across the street from the mall. The staff are always friendly and quick on the service. The restaurant is open and gets a lot of light at lunch reflecting off the building across the street. We all agreed to a tapas lunch which means sharing everything. It worked out nicely as each tapa had 3 or 4 pieces. We were all very pleased with the dishes and each had its own flavor so you didn 't get overwhelmed by one spice or sauce as you tried different items. One of our diners is not into seafood which is why we only tried one of those dishes. Fresh bread it was fresh and perfect with the EVOO but make sure to get more to eat with the tapas. Arancini 4 cheese with rice croquet. This was a nice item filled with cheese flavor and a well done crunchy exterior. Just enough rice so you know it is there but not so much that makes it a rice ball. Cheese is the main here 3 balls. Potato croquet actually was the favorite of 2 of our 3 at lunch. Looked very similar to the Arancini but completely different on the inside. 3 balls of fluffy light potato mash. Grilled octopus my favorite, grilled to perfection with just the right amount of char. Fresh with great seafood flavor not at all fishy. 5 small chunks Meatballs a hearty red sauce over 4 small meatballs that were well made and nicely flavored. Hanger steak 4 pieces of thinly sliced hanger steak with melted cheese on top. These were good but not my favorite compared to the rest. Lamb sliders there were 3 of these and we would have eaten 6. It is a faux bun made of grilled polenta and shredded lamb in a flavorful sauce. These were so good! After all that we split a plate of the tagliatelle bolognese. The sauce was similar to the meatballs which is to say very nice. The pasta was fresh tasting and perfectly al Dente. If you know your guests and no one is a double dipper I highly recommend trying this out. I only wish it had been after work so we could have had a nice bottle of wine. Next time!"
