"Toups South was such a pleasant experience for us. Since we were there early evening during Thanksgiving weekend, the crowd was light and noise was not a problem. The attention we received was perfection as was the meal. After excellent cocktails at the cozy, comfortable bar we decided to sit at the counter that surrounds the large, immaculate kitchen brimming with containers of gorgeous fresh vegetables. This was a great decision as it was fascinating to watch Chef Lambert and staff prepare our wonderfully delicious food. The flavors in all the dishes were complex yet distinct and absolutely fresh. We shared a small plate featuring scallops, prosciutto, radishes and cilantro oil. We had a very smoky beautiful redfish sauce piquant and French bread generously slathered with crab fat butter and perfectly fried okra. Also on our menu were garlic charred shrimp which actually took a back seat to the braised black eyed peas. We don't know what they did to those peas but they elevated them to a very high level and we highly recommend them. However, beware! They are probably addictive! A chow chow relish garnish rivaled any my mama ever made. Then there was dessert. Yes, really. The carrot cake had no chance next to the creamy concoction from heaven topped with spicy apples and cornbread crumbles. I can't believe we ate the whole thing! We can't wait to dine at Toups South again. Everything about our visit was superlative. In full disclosure, we were honeymooning but I don't think that influenced our perception. At least, not much! :"

"Tried this restaurant about 5 years ago and it was terrible, the chicken was rubbery, there was just nothing about anything we had that was better than mediocre. Although the dessert we had was good. We decided to give it another try after someone was raving about the short ribs. We had to get a reservation months in advance. I was expecting the food to be much better since it 's always so busy. I 'll start with the positives, service was good, food came out fairly quickly, they serve pretty good bread with both butter and olive oil dip, and all of that was really good. The french fries are fresh cut and those were also good, although the garlic and gorgonzola dipping sauces were quite bland. The key lime pie was fantastic although it was a pretty small piece for $12, extremely overpriced! Everything on the menu is overpriced. They had a sweet potato maple bourbon bisque that was really great, creamy texture and great flavor. My friend got the pork belly but was unimpressed. I was so excited for the short ribs, the waiter said they had been braised all day and that it 's a customer favorite. It was so disappointing, I went to cut into it with my fork expecting it to be tender and fall apart and it was so tough I had to use a knife to cut it, it was not tender. Flavor was mediocre. But the texture was extremely disappointing. The mashed potatoes were decent, nothing to write home about...as was the asparagus. Will definitely not be back, way overpriced for disappointing quality. If you want delicious, fork tender, fall off the bone, melt in your mouth, short rib... go to vault@237. response to owner* actually the waiter said maybe it was a bad cut or fatty that WASNT the issue. they were not cooked properly to be tender. why would i wait around for you to cook them for another 30 minutes til they were as tender they shouldve been in the 1st place?! as for bringing in water bottles we arent interested in drinking chemical tap water...i review restaurants regularly and you are the only person that has ever said a word about it...so no, most restaurants do not have that policy. you say you allowed us, as if you think you have the right to control if people drink their own filtered water. thats absurd!"

"I would not recommend going to Fiola Mare during COVID or after. The first thing I was informed of is the time limit at the table of 1 hr 30 min, which I thought was completely tasteless. I was celebrating a birthday and brought a cake with me to share at the table. I was informed that I could not cut or eat my cake at the table because things from the outside are not allowed. I thought that policy was ludicrous because literally people bring jackets, purses, etc in the restaurant, which are technically from the outside. Nevertheless, we pressed on. Our waitress was fine, she did her job gracefully and was very funny. We all ordered the lobster ravioli, which was $55. The dish tasted great but I think we were all shocked when we received 2 ravioli and 2 pieces of lobster. It was so tiny that it was more like an hor d'oeurve than a dish. It is criminal to me that Fiola Mare thinks it is appropriate to charge that amount for 2 lobster ravioli and 2 small pieces of lobster. I have no problem paying that amount for quality food but that dish was severely overpriced. At that point I did not wish to press on and order anything else. With the time limit on the dinner, I think we were all ready to go at that point. We all left HUNGRY and underwhelmed. It completely put a damper on my birthday celebration. For that, I will not return and would caution any one else to do the same."
