"My gang took me and my spouse out for our birthday dinners here. The Hawaiian word pulehu means to cook or grill over fire, so I 'm sure many including myself, expected this to be a steakhouse but it 's actually Italian cuisine. ATMOSPHERE: The open air eatery is located in the Westin Kaanapali Ocean Resort Villas North. There are no views sans for the hotel grounds and buildings as its situated near the front of the property in a courtyard like setting. Decor is typical modern Hawaii resort style with an open view kitchen. The place was dead on a Sunday night. MENU: Italian apps, salads, pasta, fish, steak, lamb, desserts, kids menu. BEVERAGE: Selby Russian River Valley Chardonnay $60/bottle. We were wanting a lesser priced white but it was out, so this was the second option. Medium bodied and smooth. FOOD: Flashed Brussels Sprouts $13.00. Thankfully they didn 't use a whole lot of balsamic vinegar in this run of the mill app which made it tastier as the sprouts ' natural flavors came through. Recommended. Bruschetta $13.00. Though this wasn 't anything to write home about, because I love burrata cheese, it was good. Pricey for the simple ingredients involved. Ribeye $46.00 $20.00 for Garilic Butter Kauai Prawns. Yup, $66 for steak and four small shrimp with the heads still attached. Being a pasta fanatic, I veered to this dish as their pasta selections were so few and uninspiring. While the steak was perfectly and simply seasoned, the shrimp were dreadfully dull. No char, no zing, no relish. And $20 for four small pieces? What a ripoff! Instead of offering a traditional baked potato they served it with lackluster herb roasted potatoes. DESSERT: Tiramisu $10.00. This was a big piece good enough for the four of us to share. Regardless of my love of custard, I didn 't truly enjoy it as the other dessert we had was much more scrumptious. Chocolate Almond Olive Oil Cake with Cherry Gelato $11.00. I don 't have a big sweet tooth, but this was really delectable. The chocolate cake was insanely moist, chocolatey and not overly sweet. The single scoop of cherry gelato brought a nice balance to the dish but was not enough to share as I 'm an ice cream fanatic! Highly recommended but ask for more ice cream. SERVICE: Our male server was great. He was very friendly, professional and checked on us often. Regardless of us dining past closing time, we never felt rushed. The background music stayed on and no one was giving us evil eyes. The only negative aspect was a vacuum that was being used near us; so not a hotel thing to do, IMO. OVERALL: A nice restaurant choice if you don 't feel like driving into Lahaina town or further. Food flavors and creativity do not justify the high prices."

"If you are ever in Alameda. This is a must go. Bring a designated driver because you are going to leave here fat and happy, that is, unless you are a vegan needing attention every five minutes. The bartender was amazing, food was amazing, owner still works here and is friendly and not jaded and amazing. The restaurant actually has a bus staff that keeps the tables appropriately cleared. What we ordered: Starting with our drinks: Plack Ties. Appetizers: the wings, dry rub, tasty, the count was only five so order a couple of plates. The chowder and other seafood dishes are California 5, but a New England 3 (sorry for the east Coast snobby statement)...but truly some of the best seafood I have had here in California. It truly, is equivalent to the high quality that you can get out of the restaurants in Bodega Bay.. Seafood medley...another excellent dish! Experience: So this was the right balance of: great food, great drinks, laughter shared with great friends created an all around great experience at this wonderful restaurant. For me, this is what great dining is about. Properly prepared food, a level of service and atmosphere that does not distract in any way from your ability to share the moment with great friends. 1400 delivers that standard! So while I can't remember any of our main courses, I do remember that it was a great time, hot and tasty food, and more importantly we all had fun and it is now a place we will go every time that we are in town. What we spent: $300 for food and drinks which for 5 people in the bay area was extremely affordable and worth every penny. Quick Tip: This is not a restaurant designed to get you in, fed and then kick you out for the next paying customer. This place provided the perfect atmosphere to bring your close friends, people that you actually like. so enjoy the atmosphere, share some good conversation and make fun memories. The wait staff was slow, but not unattentive, they stay out of your way to give you enough time to relax and enjoy your friends, enjoy the experience, and not feel like they're waiting for you to get off their table. Which I really appreciate. So, order all your apps/meals together at one time, bring your best chatty friends and sit back and enjoy the experience... This is not the place to bring a high maintenance friend who needs constant attention, besides do you really enjoy that person? It's easy to navigate this.... Simply think about what you want and need, then order together. Order your drinks together, order your apps together, get another round of drinks....together, order your meal together.... I think you get the picture. Then sit back, enjoy the great food your wonderful friends share stories laughter and enjoy the day!"

"Stopped at the Sun Valley Club to try out their 18 Hole Putting Course and had an absolutely blast! If you have the opportunity to play this course, I would highly suggest it. Even a non golfer like myself had such a wonderful time amongst the rest of my husband and his family who do enjoy golfing as a hobby. The views are absolutely stunning!! After enjoying the putting course, we decided to stop into the restaurant for a quick bite to eat. If you're able to sit outside in good weather, I would highly suggest it! It is quite serene out on the patio, and once again, you can't beat the mountain views! My husband and I shared the Crispy Chicken Sandwich with the kettle chips and a side Caesar Salad. To our surprise, it also came with pickles which are always a necessity for a good lunch sandwich. They were nice enough to cut the sandwich in half and split the chips and pickles after we indicated that we were sharing the dish. The Crispy Chicken Sandwich was exactly that criiiiispy! The breading had an exceptional crunch to it. The sandwich also offered a unique twist to it and had a maple gastrique sauce that added a touch of sweetness to it. My husband really enjoyed the sweetness, while I on the other hand, decidedly would have preferred it more savory. I ordered it knowing that it would have the sauce on it, so that's definitely a personal preference remark; the sandwich was still delicious! The Caesar Salad was a pretty standard Caesar. I did enjoy the freshly grated Parmigiano Reggiano on it, but the dish could have stood to have a couple more croutons. A success with this dish was in the flavor from what I could tell, this dressing was made in house and it tasted very much anchovy forward. It added a brininess/saltiness that very clearly stood out to make it taste like it was not bottled. I also enjoyed a nice Kentucky Mule which was a nice, refreshing addition to the meal and to the day, on the whole! The experience was enjoyable here! I would love to return time and time again to enjoy the Putting Course, and would stop in for a quick lunch again!"
