"I wanted to love Ella 's. I was almost certain I would, based on some of the great things I 'd heard about it. Unfortunately, our experience here was a mixed bag some of it good, some of it bad, some of it bordering on bizarre. First, the good! Most of the food we ordered was great. I had the wagyu burger with fries, and it was perfectly cooked. We ordered olives and focaccia bread appetizers, and they were both a hit. My partner had the duck frites with jumbo asparagus, and it was surprisingly bland, but outside of that everyone was happy with their meals. The dining room is nice, with tasteful artwork on the walls and a relaxing atmosphere. Now the bad (and bizarre I don 't want just say the service was bad because that doesn 't adequately explain what went wrong here. To be clear, our waiter was very pleasant and friendly it 's more that, on the whole, Ella 's ~vibe~ is missing the mark, and is in some ways contradictory. It 's obvious that they are trying to be a Capital F Fine Dining Restaurant. It says so right in the name, which may be your first indication that they very much want you to know that they are a Fine Dining Restaurant. Not only do they take women 's orders first at the table, they will tell you that they are deliberately taking the women 's orders first, so there is no confusion as to How They Do Things There. There are no hats allowed in the dining room, according to the host, who is wearing sneakers. To ensure that we were enjoying our Fine Dining Experience, we were visited by our waiter in approximately four to five minute intervals, sometimes including a thorough wipe of the table, whether or not we were in the middle of a conversation. (We racked up quite a check in tally, considering our food took about an hour to come out. There is a $2.50 plate fee (not to be confused with their $5.00 split plate fee , which, despite inquiring, we were unable to get to the bottom of what exactly that is all about. I don 't consider myself an authority on what fine dining should or should not be. I 'm a restaurant layman. That being said, I know that in some of the nicest restaurants I 've eaten in, subtlety has been key. I think Ella 's would do well to reel it in a little bit, drop the thinly veiled pretentiousness, and let the food and atmosphere speak for itself."

"Here 's what I ate at Bistro Joe 's inn Birmingham Michigan. I started with an old fashioned cocktail. They had their own twist on the cocktail, very delicious. For my meal I went with two appetizers which they call Snacks on their menu. I had the sticky ribs and brussel sprouts. I 'm not a fan of truffles so I requested that the brussel sprouts not have any truffle oil on them and they were excellent. The kitchen had no problem leaving the truffle oil off. So if you 're not a fan of truffle oil, but you love brussel sprouts try these! I enjoyed the ambiance in the restaurant. The table settings are really cute and the white rose and the candles make it elegant. The balcony view into the grocery store is really unique as well. Some friends and I went for a group dinner on Sunday evening. This location used to allow separate bills but now they don 't, which is a let down. One bill was issued and we could pay with up to four credit cards. It 's a pain to have to divvy up everyone 's costs and collect money from everyone via different apps. Unfortunately, I think this is a mistake for Bistro Joe 's, I wish they didn 't change their policy. I will refrain from bringing large groups here in the future. Pro tip: If you decide to come here as a large group who all pay for their own orders separately, I recommend that you bring cash so that you don 't have to worry about paying the bill on different credit cards and sorting out who owes who what. Everyone in my group enjoyed their food and cocktails. Our server was friendly and efficient. Again, the food was really great. Definitely a must try, I know I 'll be back (just not with a large group). #restaurantreview #bistrojoes #bistrojoesbirmingham #birminghammi #metrodetroit #groupdinner"

"I made my reservation early at 5:15. I was spiced in the food industry as I served 4 years personally tables. I know what to expect to celebrate when the general rush comes. 5:15 was intended to avoid this. we sat at 5:15 o'clock. there were already 2 3 tables in the restaurant, possibly 1 couple at the bar. not busy. we ordered our drinks 5:20. the server is dead. we had actually been quite hungry hoping to start a series of their riders, but she was gone before we got a word out. no big one. 5:30 she did not return terrible with our drinks. they are cocktails from the craft, so the timing is to be expected. at this place we introduce our order. we asked for a command of fries to begin, we asked that they come first. we also ordered 2 separate apps, the fried somego calamari, escape from swarm-like rib eye. we have waited for one, but we have cost our drinks when the fried somego came out (not the pommes.) we thought it was strange that we first asked for pommes, but hey, it happened. then the other 2 apps we are asked if we still need something we did not say at the moment. that was 6 o'clock? not quite sure. then we sat, we sat down. No one checked us. at 6:45 I asked if our escaped had been fired because we thought that the server said that yup went on, did not ask if we needed anything. 6:55 The escaped came finally. we immediately asked for a box check. we have been there for 45 minutes since 1 hour. They asked why we wanted it to go, we said we had waited long, they came back immediately, said: "I have only their escapes 15 minutes ago 1 hour ago." Then I said, "we are pretty deceived that we have been sitting with empty drinks for so long." this part was the most shocking answer to us, and then we realized that the rib came with absolutely nothing. very disappointing"
