"I placed an order over the phone and provided my name and phone number. I was told it would be ready in 25 minutes. When I arrived to pick up my order at 6:30pm, I was informed that there would be a 10 minute delay due to a rush of orders. This seemed illogical as a time had already been quoted before the rush. I decided to wait in my car while my son waited inside the restaurant, believing it would only be an additional 10 minutes. However, when I checked in with my son 20 minutes later, he was told it would still be 10 more minutes. After calling myself at 7:17pm, I was informed that they were just starting on my order, which was odd considering they had previously stated they were working on it. It shouldn't take 45 minutes to prepare one plate. Despite the quality of the food, the lack of communication about the delay and the fact that they had already charged me before my food was ready were major disappointments. I was even asked for a tip before realizing the hassle I would endure. A simple courtesy call about the delay would have made a big difference. Unfortunately, I left with my food after 7:30pm, 1.5 hours after placing my order. This experience has made me reluctant to return to this restaurant."

"Waiting to be seated took a long time, even after I mentioned to the hostess that I had joined the waitlist. Once we finally got to our table, we had to wait another 10 minutes for a server to come over. When she did, her approach was quite abrupt—she jumped right in with “What do you want?” instead of offering any sort of greeting. However, once we placed our orders, things improved. The food arrived promptly, but the chicken fajitas lacked flavor. On the bright side, the elotes were fantastic!"

"I used to enjoy going to this restaurant, but an experience I had today has soured me on the establishment. I had in hand a coupon from a local publication indicating I could receive 1/2 off on a lunch combo. My wife and I ordered from the lunch combomenu, but when I went to pay, I noticed that the price was higher than that listed on the menu. The reason? It was a Sunday andthe very fine print on the menu indicates that lunch combos are only available Monday through Saturday. Worse, the fellow at theregister would not accept my coupon, even at the higher price, despite the fact that there was no indication that it was notvalid on Sunday. I blame the server to some extent for not pointing out that the lunch combos were not available on Sunday.All-in-all, a very disappointing experience and an example of poor customer relations."

"I do have one suggestion: it would be great if Mexican restaurants served their chips and salsa warm, as it really elevates the dining experience. We will definitely return to sample more dishes from the menu! I wanted to add a bit more to my review. On September 18, 2021, we came back to celebrate my husband's 66th birthday and brought his sister along, since we had been raving about this place to her. She lives just a short walk away but hadn’t visited until now. The young man working there was incredibly kind—he opened the door for us and helped us find a table that accommodated all of us, as my sister-in-law uses a wheelchair, my husband had a rollator, and I use a cane. The service was quick, and as always, the food was hot and absolutely amazing! My sister-in-law immediately fell in love with Arturo's, and they did not disappoint. She mentioned she would definitely come back and joked that if she could, she'd be there every day, wishing they would deliver to her since she would be ordering daily! Overall, we left as happy new customers. My husband was thrilled to celebrate his birthday in such a fantastic place with delicious food. Thank you!"

"I found it. One of the biggest bummers about moving from the west coast to NC was the dearth of authentic Mexican cuisine. So, it was certainly an unexpected and pleasant surprise finding this gem in northeast Raleigh. Though it 's attached to a gasstation (albeit among the most modern and ritzy ones I 've ever encountered), that 's where the hole-in-the-wall stereotypeends. Clean establishment, massive menu, prompt and friendly service, and food that resembles everything I remember about myhome state. I had the huge burrito, and my wife opted for the street tacos. We were not disappointed. I 'll be returning hereweekly at this rate."

"Watch your debit card transactions!!!! They will add a tip when you do not. I paid for 3 takr home drinks. The horchata and 2 glass bottles, total was $13.11. Checked my bank account. Maria the lady who simply rang me out gave herself a $6 tip. Sad thing is, she was our waitress and we had already tipped her at the table. This is very dishonest. "I can only give this place one star because I couldn't give it zero! The food was awful—from the tamales to the tortas to the quesadillas; it was so bad I ended up getting sick before we even left the restaurant. It honestly tasted like they pulled our food out of the trash. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone! They have a lot of glowing reviews online, but keep in mind those could easily be from family and friends inflating their ratings because the experience was truly dismal. The service was just as bad. I'm not the type to skip out on a bill—I always pay—but I will never return, and I'm doing exactly what I feel is right by leaving this negative review. Save your time and money!"

"We’ve had El Toro quite a bit over the past year, 50% of the time doing a take out order. The price for the Burrito Ruletta according the takeout menu they provide is 11.95. We put in our regular order of 2 of those to go. My husband returned home confused as the total price was 33.69. That’s 16.84 per meal. We thought well, with inflation and everything maybe they increased their prices, but yikes that’s a big jump. Well I hopped on door dash as they do use that service and lo and behold, the B.R. Is actually only $10.24 on there. We could have had it delivered for a total of $23.09 and saved $10.60!! So we had planned to call about the pricing tomorrow. BUT then we opened our meals and find out not only were they missing ingredients all together, but the burritos were about a 1/5 the size as they’ve always been. Their burritos in the past have made you full before you eat even half. In this case, the burritos were limp and empty. They had maybe a couple pieces of chicken in them all together, mine was basically all green pepper and my husbands all onion. They were practically empty vegetable burritos. We’ve loved eating their food, but to pay a significant increase and get 1/5 of the food, disappointing is an understatement."

We chose to enjoy our meal outdoors. The complimentary chips and dips were average. The Pozole was a generous portion and truly delicious. The Enchiladas Verdes were incredibly tasty. The rice on the side was enjoyable, and while the small salad was decent, I would have preferred a greener option over iceberg lettuce. The cheese quesadillas were outstanding! The chicken and cheese quesadilla was also good. The burgers and fries were excellent. The service was exceptional! We left very happy and are already looking forward to our next visit to El Loro Mexican Restaurant."

They explain the increased costs by saying "costs are rising," but charging over $30 for six tacos and a horchata seems excessive to me. Given the restaurant's location, I appreciate that the food is great, but when I dine in, I expect the ambiance to reflect the price I'm paying. The atmosphere is rather basic and not at all what I would expect for such a high meal cost. When eating out and paying restaurant prices, you anticipate a pleasant environment and a welcoming feeling, but that's not what I experienced here. I sincerely hope they reconsider their pricing and work on enhancing how they treat their customers."

"We found this restaurant during the pandemic and quickly became regulars, loving their excellent food and service. Unfortunately, our recent visit was disappointing. Both the food and service fell short of expectations. We’ve always enjoyed this place and might consider giving it another shot, but our latest experience was so different from just a few months ago that we’re unsure. Prices have gone up significantly, and when dining out, I expect at least the food or the service to be satisfying. "Have eaten in this place for many years and it takes me time and again to remember that I have from Colombia. The food is good, I ordered ALWAYS the bandeja Paisa (small version), this time I was decided to order something else. Ordnete the Picada [without the Morcilla (Blutwurst) and asked her to cook so that the Yuca was crispy and the Chorizo and Chicharon was also crispy. WOW it was a huge plate to share enough; asked for a box for what I was unable to finish. Danielle our waiter was amaizing; wherever we needed something that required our needs. The only thing I would change is the TV screens, if I wanted to eat in front of a TV, I would do that at home. Maybe you bring the TV screens during the World Cup and other BIG games / sports events, that would be my suggestion. Also, would like to have Uva (grape) postobon. will continue to visit this facility"
