"I am always in search for an authentic taco, and it was recommended I try out La Esquina Market at 1156 East Main St in BEAUTIFUL Murfreesboro, Tennessee. This place is much more than a spot with some Mexican food, it is also a butcher shop and full Mercado. I decided to try their tacos and they are served on a “doubled” soft tortilla with different toppings depending on the meat selected. I went with Asada, Pollo, and Carnitas. The only thing I added was some cheese on the side so I could add a small amount. I really liked the fact that they did not “overload” the tortilla…there was just enough meat and topping to make it full, not spilling out everywhere. Loved the “garnish” of radishes and a slice of cucumber along with the slice of lime. The Asado taco was good but the steak was a little overcooked…if the meat was more medium it would have been excellent. The Pollo taco was really good, nice flavors, and had a bit of a roasted flavor. My favorite was the Carnitas taco…it was delicious. You could taste the wonderful roast pork flavors and the cilantro/onions topping really enhanced it. I really loved the small soft tortillas they were served on…not sure if they are homemade but they were very tasty. To wash it all down…can’t beat a Coca-Cola from Mexico with real cane sugar!!! I must say you can’t beat the price…the entire meal and tip was $10…can’t beat the quality, flavor, friendly service, or price!!! The Mercado offerings look great, with specialty meats to include HOMEMADE Chorizo sausage I need to try. As I walked through the store I saw a variety of dried peppers, seasonings, fresh vegetables, and fruits in the grocery section. I also saw the BIGGEST hunk of pork rind I have ever seen, and if you need a special Piñata…they have you covered there too."
